using an articulating boom IHI UJ55

I know this must sound dumb, but I have an articulating boom on my excavator which I have never used. I have no idea how to use the thing there is a level I can pull up on the floor. The one pedal on the floor is for speed when traveling. But does anybody ever used the articulating boom
on one of these machines. I am trying sell it as I have done what I need and
I want a bigger toy in the spring and when people come to look at I would like to show them how to use it. I never dug near builds and never had to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

Michelle, I wish I had one, I would find all kind of uses for it and if you experiment with it you will also.

Depending on the manufacturer and model, most articulated hoes have a pedal that you push one side or the other to articulate the boom left or right. The main purpose of an articulating boom is to work in tight or resticted areas where a standard boom would have trouble or not be able to work at all.

Articulating and offset booms help you dig tight to a wall, parallel so you don't need to make a huge trench.

They are more useful on a 0 tail swing machine but better than nothing for sure. articulating you can drive as tight to the wall as possible then lock out the regular swing and use the machine like a backhoe. It will swing much more to the left than the right so plan your digging direction so you travel correctly.

Offset boom just moves the boom over closer to the right hand side of the machine. If you have much tail swing they aren't as useful I don't think. Lot of grey market machines use that method. Maybe I just don't know how to use them, maybe the offset is straightened to dump the spoils away from the building.
