I have a late 80's Case IH 235 18hp tractor. 2-wheel drive with front end loader. I just purchased a new 3-point disc (12 X 16). I was told be manufactier that my tractor could handle this disc. This tractor came with turf tires but previous owner replaced these tires with new wide tractor type tires. My problem is that the tractor "spins" when I let the disc down. Does bog down just spins. I have let the disc down while alreeady moving and it still satrts spedning. Tires have water in rear tires for weight. The dealer set the discs at a sharp angle to cut better. Any sugestions to how to set up disc or tractor to handle this disc? Will "taller" narrow tractot tires gte me more grip? Do I need to reset the cutting angle to less angle? Help? Any suggestions welcome.

If you set the disks so they are all pointing straight ahead the tractor will handle it easily.

Get them turned a little and cutting and there you will sit.:)

If you have a front loader on the tractor, take it off when discing. Ken Sweet

Like others have said, if you have a loader installed, remove it. Also try angling the disks a little less.

Thirdly, have you tried not letting the the disk all the way down, just let it engage the ground a little. This will do two things, make it easier to pull and keep some weight of the disk on the rear end for more traction. You may have to see if wheel weights are available for the rear of your tractor as well.

With wide tires it might be hard, depends on the tread. You could try to use your 3rd point and take the disks out of level, I would try letting the back gang down a little more that the front then lower the disk so both touch but the front gang isn't all the way down once the back gang had cut in some.

Are the tires R1 or R4? I have used chains before on the rear of a 2 wd tractor to gain traction while disking (we left them on from winter) and that made a difference.

As others stated remove the loader.

Receipt says they are R1. The tractor had turf tires but previous owner put big lug tires not long before I bought it. They are 31 - 15.5 X5 R1. Thanks for help.
