Uses for a Mid-Mount PTO Besides a Mid Mount Mower or Front Snow Blower?

Prior to specing out a new compact tractor (35-50 Tractor HP), I would like to know if there are many useful implements that can be run by a mid mount PTO (besides a mid-mount mower or snow blower) in the Tractor HP range I'm looking at? I won't be running a mid-mount mower or snow blower and I'm worried that adding a mid mount PTO would just be an additional (unused) maintenance point...

What are you going to be using the mule for?

Are you investing in a front loader?

If you have no snow to move or if you do not want to purchase an integral sickle bar mower there is not much point in having it; but a mid mount PTO can be used for a sweeper on some mules and some are also hydraulic drive.
BUT in saying that a rear mounted leaf blower is more useful in wide open spaces.

The added benefit of having the mid mount PTO is that it will have a greater trade in value for you even if you do not use it.

Depending on the lubrication needs for the mid mount stub shaft housing you may not have any maintenance to do as the bearings are sitting in hydraulic oil anyway. BUT the potential for a leaking oil seal will be there some time in the future.

I've always looked at message boards like this as information sharing tools, not a place to blow sunshine up people's nether regions. So if you feel neglected or insulted by my requests for information, please just skip past my postings in the future.

Save yourself some money and purchase a rear mount Vrisimo flail mower and you will not need a bush hog or three point mounted finish mower.

The backhoe for your use is going to need an under body mounting frame and I am not sure if you can have both of these implements on at the same time.

Its your money but unless your going to use the back hoe the year round your better of renting a small tracked machine that will have more power and digging depth when you need to have one.

A landscape rake will do just about everything a box blade will do except rip up dirt. you can purchase a good rototiller to do a lot of work and it would pair well with the landscape rake.

Interesting idea with the flail mower that I will have to look into. For flail mowers, are the maintenance requirements pretty much on par with the brush hog/finish mower maintenance? As for renting equipment, I live on an island in Puget Sound WA and due to transportation and cost, renting isn't a viable solution for me I know that Kubota and LS (the main 2 I'm looking at due to available dealers being close by) have models that can have the mid-pto with the frame mounted backhoe in the size tractors I'm looking at.

I agree w/ those that offered relative advice.

Of my three primary tractors, One is mid PTO equipped, and never used.

NOTE: Flail mowers do consume a NOTICEABLE amount of available hp. Just a FYI.

All depends what you need. Unfortunately front attachments are criminally expensive. Wouldn't it be nice if some standard could be adopted? Mounting scheme, speed, rotation. I realize that an out front universal attachment scheme would be easier than the belly mower.
