How useful is the hydraulic dump box on a toolcat? Is it used a lot, occassionally or rarely? Is it a must have item or could a manually tilted box or fixed cargo box be OK for a cheaper price? It seems like the bucket can carry a lot and still able to load and unload itself.

It's kind of like you and me radman1. If anyone minds that we are hogging up all the cyberspace here I guess you'll just have to jump in.

As to the dump box I can only relate to my utv. I use it quite a bit for garden clippings, branches and rocks (hand loaded). Only rarely do I have anything near a ton in the box. I did move some creek wash into a parking area once, but its not that often I have a loader and operator available. I also move around large rocks once in awhile. I can barely pick them up so they must weigh a few hundred pounds each. As to my commercial tractor, I would like some kind of a box to throw rocks and other objects into that I encounter while mowing.

I believe the idea is that TC's compliment another Bobcat, like a crawler that is much slower. But this only makes sense if the dirt or whatever stays on the site. I'd rather have an extended cab and a small side dump box large enough for a sprayer and less than 1,000 lbs of stuff. I think this would take care of 95% of its actually use and makes sense for the 5610 concept. What say you?

I use mine all the time, especially for moving branches, limbs, and brush...cut it up with a chainsaw, throw it in the dump bed, drive to your burn/chip site, back up and push a button and it's unloaded in a matter of seconds.

I can see a dump with brush might be helpful but in reality, it is not hard to just pull the stuff out of a cargo box because most of the brush usually isn't hard to remove. You had to pick it up and put it in the box manually in the first place which was more difficult.
As to moving larger rocks, branches and debris, the bucket just makes more sense or use a grapple bucket and you can probably carry as much as the cargo box and easier to pick up.

I afraid the price of a side dump box on a 3 pt. toolcat is going to get very expensive. Toolcat is already $$. We can always dream.

I find mine extremely handy. We just dug out a front walk, side walk, rear walk and driveway for an interlok job. The mini excavator did the digging and deposited the spoil into the toolcat. It holds quite a bit heaped up in the back. The tc drove out to the street with minimal lawn damage, dumped the load and then used the bucket to load the truck for off site removal. 40 yards moved in air conditioned comfort! It comes in handy almost everyday while doing landscaping. The sweeper attachment made quick work of cleaning the street.

A reasonable bucket for a toolcat is 62-66". A 66" low profile bucket for a toolcat would hold about 16 cu ft of material heaped. How much does a heaped load on a toolcat box carrry? 50% more 100% more?

According to the Toolcat website the cargo box dimensions are 61" x 52" x 10"...
This equates to approx 18 cu ft, without heaping. Keep in mind that the box has stake holes, allowing you to install sides that would easily allow tripling this value (depends on what you're hauling), and provided you are mindful of the box weight limitation of 2000 lbs.
