I may be going to look at a used Vicon pendulum-type spreader to purchase. Never seen one up close, anything in particular I need to look at?

Look up a price list for the model you will be looking at. They are nice spreaders, but small parts carry a big price in some cases. Just know the risk.

The asking price for the spreader is really low, so unless the PTO shaft doesn't turn or something is rusted out I will consider it. Looking to use it primarily for spreading seed but manuals focus on fertilizer, so I'm wondering about that.

Brought it home, everything turns and moves smoothly. 27C36308-B64C-4E8D-A63C-2A44A645AA2E.jpeg
I think I did OK for $150.

I finally got around to taking this thing apart to see what it needed. Replaced the distributor plate, the spout clip and the rubber ring gasket that goes under the hopper. About $170 for the parts. Reassembled it and mounted it on tractor, everything moves smoothly and quietly.

One interesting thing that occurred while sourcing parts, one dealer refused to order/sell me parts for it (even though I had valid part numbers ready) because they were not for a Kubota spreader. I don't know if that is the dealership's policy or Kubota's policy, but I was able to get them with no issues from another parts vendor.

I think you got a good deal on that Vicon spreader even with putting $170 worth of new parts into it.

Did you ever price a new Vicon spreader?

And I have seen people "trying" to sell old rusted and worn out standard spinner style spreaders for more money than what you paid.

Yes, I was lucky and was the first of many to inquire about it when the guy posted it for sale. I think the current Kubota equivalents (Kverneland made/Kubota labeled) start at around $2000.
