Used Landpride Flail mower?

So I found this flail mower for sale, it’s a landpride fm3072. I dont need one at the moment but it looks like a good deal so I’m thinking about picking it up. I dont know much about them so what should I be looking at in general? What about problems or maintenance wise? There asking $650

GRAB IT or put a deposit on it pending a final decision BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES AND LOCK IT UP WITH A CHAIN ATTACHED TO THE DOG HOUSE.

If they only want that much for it I would take pictures of the flail mower rotor and post post them here quickly as your looking at a Mower that is worth over $7,000.00 if it is a rebranded Maschio with land pride colors.

If it is a Kubota made land pride flail mower I would still like to see pictures of it ASAP.

Great deal unless its beat to ****. If its beat to **** it might be an ok deal. If its non-functioning it still may be an ok deal. Think the 30 series is their beefier one. New the lighter 20 series is $5k or so.

Flails have 6 bearings or so plus the gearbox. Which is around 5 more than a rotary cutter. So a bit more maintnance & wear points.

As long as the rotor is straight & hood isnt trashed other stuff is mostly replaceable commodity parts.

Ok Guys I’m back, sorry it took so long to reply but between work and an anniversary it’s been pretty hectic. So I called the guy up and he said the mower is around 8 years old but he only used it 2 or 3 years before they went with a bigger tractor and batwing mower. I went and looked at it Monday and brought her home. It turns over by hand, cant see any leaks around the gear box and nothing is rusted through. There is some surface rust but nothing that can’t be taken care of pretty easy. The front of the mower where the flappers(lack of a better term) hang does have a dent in it but its not bad and I can hammer it back out. The right side roller bracket is a little bent but the roller turns by hand. Some of the knives need replaced some just need touched up so Illl probaly just order all new ones. It is the 30 series and it is stout. I think I did good but Illl be interested in what you guys think since I dont know a lot about them

Pics or it didnt happen. Sounds like you robbed the guy if it spins by hand appropriately.

Can't comment on the dent without seeing it. But I wouldnt likely to bother fixing it myself unless it hit the knives.

I’d not buy a flail mower without running it to see if the flail rotor is true. Bent rotor = scrap mower.

The good thing is you have a Maschio Flail mower under the bad landpride paint.

The better thing is you have a Maschio Flail Mower with a trash ejection door that will let you mow tall brush without plugging the flail mower or burning up V belts.

The Debris shutter doors mounted on the front hinge are standard equipment and are available as replacement parts and must be left in place.

The bad thing is it needs sand blasting, new paint, new decals from landpride, new knives(you can purchase them from flail master), new belts you can buy anyplace, a new rear roller bearing and bearing housing and time to work on it.

You need to call the old owner and ask where ALL the recutting bars are as you want them. The grass and brush recutting bars came as standard equipment from Maschio/Landpride.


SO you have a flail mower worth over $7,000.00 new you just need time and money to work on it.


Since they damaged the knives pretty much they are not worth sharpening using a wet well grinder but you should have a wet well grinder from micromark($99.00) to sharpen the new knives when they need to be sharpened; you should also invest in an angle setter from wood craft to set the proper angle of the tool rest to sharpen them too($25.00 from woodcraft).

Yea I thought about that but I would have had to drag my Kubota over and hour away as he didn’t have anything to run it. It looked good when he spun it by hand so I decide to take a chance but we’ll find out for sure tomorrow.


It’s going to get new paint, knives, and belts this winter. I’m changing gear oil tomorrow. I’m going to try straighten that little bend in the back as the bearing seams alright. The recutting bars aren’t listed on the 3072 according to the manual I got with it, only the 4088. I’ll have to do some looking around maybe I can find a set
