Hello,

I've read a number of the threads on grader scrapers and all have been very good and informative but I still have a couple questions.

I maintain about a mile of gravel road and have the opportunity to purchase a used Land Pride GS1572 in excellent condition for a good price. I currently grade / maintain the road using a 72 inch box scraper. This does a decent to good job but takes more time than I'd like.

Unfortunately the road is different widths in different locations. Some areas are between nine and ten feet wide while other areas can be up to 14 feet wide.

Question: With a 72 inch grader scraper will I be able to build a crown on the parts of the road which are only nine to ten feet wide?

I have access to two tractors to pull the grader scraper. One is a ~60 HP Kubota and the other is a 30 HP John Deere.

Question: Would it be possible to pull the 72 inch grader scraper with the 30 HP John Deere?

Question: Since the Land Pride is not considered to be the heaviest / strongest grader scraper out there is the ~60 HP Kubota too big for it?

Thanks,

You can always try the 30 horse Deere, if you have problems then you can use the Kubota. Since you are just maintaining, seems like you wouldn't have to worry about the Kubota being to big for it. Yes you can still build up a crown in the road even though the road is narrower at places. In fact at those narrow places you can build it up faster.

Thanks for the response.

Not sure if it makes any difference but the Kubota is a M6800.

You may have a problem, the grader is cat 1 only and I'm guessing that the M6800 is cat 2. So unless you want to alter the clevis's on the grader, or by chance the existing clevis's are already wide enough to get a cat 2 arm in there and use a bushing the Kubota most likely won't work. :( How much does the Deere way? I know that my Mahindra 3215 weighs in at about 5,000lbs with loader, filled tires and an 800lb implement. My 5 foot grader is about all that it wants at certain times. I would not want a 6' grader for my 3215, but then my grader blades are more along the lines of being commercial grade-weight blades.

Can you compare some hitch measurements to see if the Kubota will in fact hitch up without any mods? If so and the price is right, I would get it. But I think that I would rely on the Kubota for back up, the Deere may not be up to the task.

Good luck ;)

Currently installed on the Kubota is a Woods HB72 box scraper. Is this considered to be a cat 1 or cat 2 piece of equipment? I compared the three point hitch and pins on the Kubota to the Deere and other than the three point hitch overall being much beefier the distances between the two arms is the same at ~29 inches and sizes of the pins appear to be the same (Measurment take with Kubota / box scraper and Deere / pull behind finish mower). ...Though I do notice on the Kubota that there are circular spacers on the arm pins.

The Deere is a 790 with a front loader. Man it looks small in comparison.

That is most likely becuase it has bushings to adapt to a cat. @ hitch on the Kubota. That is all you need to do, just put bushings on the pins.

The 15 series is recommended for use with 17-40 horsepower and is a cat.1 hook up, this comes from the Landpride product guide so your larger tractor may have a little more power than what it is designed for
I also have the woods HB72 box blade which is a cat. 1 hook up, great box blade!!

I have the GS1572 and love it. Can't say for sure how your two tractors would handle it but it seems very well matched with my Kubota L3240.

I don't think the varying road width will be a problem. Mine is about 9-12 feet wide in different areas and it still seems to work just fine. You might have to make a couple more passes at the wider spots. For the narrow spots you could also just tilt it using the 3pt hitch.

I was looking at the RB 1572 specs not the GS 1572 sorry for the mistake
The horsepower rating on the grading scraper is 25-50 horsepower they come in 48",60",& 72" they are cat.1 hitch and quick hitch compatible the skid shoes are replaceable
The scraper is ideal for renovating gravel driveways and roads leveling construction and turf sites and cleaning barns and chicken coops

I would love to find a use LP scraper. Right now I use a homemade scraper, it's pretty light duty and I have noticed my 42hp tractor has twisted the frame a little. It's happened when I get into an area where there's some rocks and as it pulled them out of the ground I didn't feel it on the tractor, the speed didn't change while something kind of needed to. It's not so much the HP but the HP plus the weight getting the power to the ground. My guess is if you do go for it and the small tractor can't pull it then you could sell it and get your money back, for that matter if you were close I'd most likely buy it.
