Kubota L5030
Hello all! This is my first time posting on the site although I have been lurking for the past several months since I bought some property and starting looking at tractors. We have a little shy of 100 acres that we are planning to build a house on. I will be using the tractor for gardening, about 5-10 acres of food plots, taking care of a driveway when that occurs, brush hogging about 15 acres 2-3 times a year, and possibly feeding some smaller round bales in the future. I figured I would need a 40-50 hp tractor although unsure on shuttle or HST. I need to keep the purchase under $20K.

I could use a little advice on a tractor I am looking at. It is a used kubota L5030 HST with around 1000 hrs on it. Of those, the last 800 hours have been as a rental with an average of 100 hr/yr. I have my concerns about being a rental along with my dad but we decided to look at the tractor. The dealer wanted $17K for it but has come down some. The tractor shows normal wear (does not appear to be what I would think rental wear would look like) and slight rust but we could not find any major issues. The one plus is all the service has been done and has been tracked due to the dealer owning it. No major parts have been broken or replaced. My dad has been around tractors all of his life.

Thoughts or possible issues to look for with this model?

While we were testing the tractor, the display is to show if the PTO is on and at what rpm. It only displayed the pto was on some of the time when we turned it on. We figured a connection was coming loose and the dealer said they would look into it. Of course when he had a technician look it worked when the technician turned the PTO on at idle and would rev the engine. It did not work if the engine was not at idle when he turned on the PTO. He thought this was how it was to function. Does anyone know if this is how it is to function?

Sorry for the long winded first post but any help is appreciated! Thank you!

The L5030 is a great little tractor, I bought one used, used it for two years then traded it in for about what I paid to the selling dealer; had 1400 hours and was in great shape. It didn't even make it to the sales lot before it was snapped up.

My Intelipanel display work showing PTO speed any time the display mode was switched to it. Sometimes my "cruise control" indicator worked and sometimes it didn't never bothered to fix it.

I've never heard of any problems with the tractor. Before buying mine, I corresponded with TexasJohn who gave me a lot of good information on it.

I only traded mine in to avoid the Tier IV stuff and got a L5740 to last the rest of my life.

Thanks TripleR. Do you remember if the Intelipanel displayed the PTO speed only when the PTO was started with the tractor at idle or could the pto be started at a higher rpm and it would show speed?

It didn't make any difference on mine, it works the same as on my L5740, I usually start my PTO at about 1200-1500 as with my RCR2672 at idle it bogs down too much.

I thought it should display PTO is ON and speed when you start it at any RPM. Safety wise it wouldn't make sense if the display would not show the PTO is on when it is.

I thought that is what I said, it makes no difference when I engage, it shows the speed PTO speed when that is selected on the display selector.

At about 8 min, the selector will shows display selections, our M8540 is automatic, but not the L30/40. I couldn't find one on the L30 only. At 12 min, it shows the engine running and PTO engaged.

Yes.

You won't be disappointed with a L5030, but have them fix the PTO sensor....

We own a L5030 HST with backhoe bought new, It has 2,930 hrs with no failures. The pto speed works on ours at any RPM. Great little tractor will handle almost any bale with a bale spear and lots of counter weight. If you are using bale clamps then 1000lb bales are about the limit.

I would not be afraid of that tractor given the basic checks.

Thank you all for the help! TripleR I was just reiterating what you said in agreement.

I am making a counter offer with a few contingencies - fixing PTO display, shipping included, etc. I can't wait to hear back. Hopefully I will have to learn how to post pictures shortly.
