So i'm headed off to look at a used B7100 w/1700 hrs on it tomorrow. No FEL (unfortunately) but comes with snow plow, swisher 44 tow behind mower, and garden plow. i dont know the year but i would make a guess by looking at the picture i saw that its mid 80's vintage.

this is my first diesel tractor and while i have a pretty good idea what to look for with used gas motors i would love someone to go over a couple model specific items to look for on a used B7100.

anything part prone to failing?

aside from checking the oil, making sure it doesn't smoke too much at startup, what specifically should i take note of?

thanks!!

TractorData.com Kubota B7100 tractor information

If you have the serial number, it lists the year it's made.

How did it go? Checking the coolant for oil. Water in engine and hydraulic oil. Easy to check the left and right brakes. Look for drips... worry about a really clean tractor, let it run for a while.

well, not so sure. motor looked good, some old oil sludge around the top and some underneath but nothing actively leaking while i ran it. ran for about 20 min. started right up, very little blue smoke then no smoke.

my only concern is the fact that pressing in both of the pedals caused a horrible grinding noise. the owner was not at all familiar with the tractor and didnt know much about it at all. said it just started grinding like that this year and wasnt run much once that started.

looks to me like its a gear driven trans, i would think being gear driven that one of the pedals was a clutch? perhaps the grinding is the clutch gone bad and needing replaced?

the accessories are worth more than they are asking so we agreed on a price but anyone know what that grinding would be caused by? i believe it was the left pedal that caused it.

BTW SN looked like B7100-68XXX seems that puts it as a 1980

thanks!

Assuming that it's not an HST model, run it through all 3 fwd gears & rev in both the hi & lo ranges to see how it shifts. You'll need to stop and start 8 times as they don't take kindly to shifting on the fly. This will give you a good idea of clutch condition, too. Engage & disengage the 4wd (if it has it). Engage & disengage the PTO. Everything should work smoothly with no grinding. Check that the diff lock is working. Look for leaks from the cooling system, engine & trans cases. Check for steering slop. Kick the tires! Sort of kidding on the last one, but try roling the front tires back & forth to see how much slop there is between the front axle & frame mounts.

Congrats... Post some photo!!!

For your noise problem, you need to be a bit more specific with what pedals you are talking about. You have on the left side a clutch (not sure if it's two stage or not) and on the right side you have a split brake pedal (with a left and right). I'm not sure which one is making noise... I would *definitely* start a new thread in Parts/Repair section with a good title

Kubota B7100(E*,D*,HST*) - noise from brake or transmission. Help!

*E=2wd, *D=4wd, *HST=hydrostatic

Did you find out when it was service last?

Back wheels are tight..no chunking sound.

Check for excessive play in the pto shaft. If those bearings go it will tear up the whole rear end. Clean the radiator good and put some screen over it before mowing. I even put a water temp gauge on mine to keep track of how warm it's getting. They are generally real good little tractors though
