Looked at a used JD 110 a week or so ago on a cold moring when the wind chill was below zero.. I let the machine warm up for 5 - 10 minutes before I took it out for a spin. While trying it out I stopped and started and reversed it a number of time. 2 or 3 times I pushed down on the forward pedal and nothing happened. It didn't move. When I asked the owner about it he indicated that it might be a sensor. Replacing a sensor is not quite so serious...but do you think it is a sensor or an indication of major issues with the transmission? Or was it the cold weather???

Thanks for your thoughts!!!

I'm no expert but I'll give you my opinion at no charge. I have a Kubota L39. When I start it in cold weather the hydrolic fluid takes about 30min to warm completely. During that time the hydrolics functions are very slow to respond.Since an HST functions on hydrolics this could be the problem. Whatever the cause I'd be sure to have it fixed prior to purchase.

KRH,
I'm not an expert, but I've BTDT with a Massey-Ferguson 50C TLB, and here's my opinion. I think the shuttle is going out. The cold weather makes it worse, and it will probably work - for a little while - once it warms up, but it's likely due an overhaul. I would suggest that you contact a JD dealer and find out what the repair will cost before you buy. If the owner won't negotiate on the price, or just get it fixed himself, I would pass on it.

The only problem is that a JD 110 TLB has HST and not a shuttle...

I suspect the hydraulic fluid had not warmed up.

What was the real temperature? Wind chill means nothing to a machine. Wind chill is a way of adjusting temperatures because a human will feel much colder than the real temperature in a wind.

Agree, here. I've noticed that even at +10F and Lo-Vis hydraulic fluid, it'll take 20-30 minutes of running before everything is "normal" with the hydraulics.

Before I switched out the J20C Hy-Gard, it was even worse! That said, it takes a while to heat up 10 gallons of hyd oil.

Since the 110 is "fly by wire" so to speak-meaning the pedal operates a rheostat/pot that in turn operates the tranny, it very could be a electrical problem as well. Could be as simple as a loose or dirty connection.

I would agree that its probably just a sensor. Since your not there now you cant try this, but... You can bypass using the foot pedals by using the creep to reposition to see if the pedals are the issue. My 110 does some wierd things when cold too. Lots of sensors. As was said, its drive by wire.

Hi All: JD service manager tends to think it might be electrical/calibration issue. There are both Forward & Reverse potentiometers which are in essence position sensors. They need to be calibrated. He is working up cost estimate.

Thanks again for all your advuce.
