So I'm looking at a used 5220r. It's online and a good deal. But there's no Branson dealers anywhere near me. Like not in my state or a neighboring state.

I tend to do all my own repairs anyway, but by no means am I a mechanic.

There are some TYM dealers around, now that they are owner by the same parent company, that might help?

What do you think? Should I not even consider it?

You will have to order parts online but not really a big deal ...

Plenty of dealers out there willing to ship whatever you need to you. Some of them also participate on this forum.

If you feel comfortable working on this kind of stuff, shouldn't be a big deal. These are actually pretty simple tractors with little to no electronics to make it a pain to work on.

As far as not having a dealer close by it would make me a tad bit nervous in some ways.
As far as repairs any independent ag mechanic should have no problem if it's something you don't wish to handle,
such as a split for a clutch or something similar. Not having a dealer to bounce ideas off of when you have an issue could be a factor.
But, that is a fairly simple straight forward tractor which makes it a bit easier to work on.
If you get it just download the correct service manual and parts manual, you'll be good to go.

Also the website dealer locator is not very good, I don't see any indication of your general location but someone may know of a dealer in your area.

Branson designs are distinct from TYM designs. Branson and TYM Parts are not interchangeable.

True but

That will be changing at least to some extent, on the engines.

TYM dealers will be expected to maintain and repair TYM models like the 494 which use a Kukje (Branson) engine.

I went to the Branson USA web site in western NY and Northern PA and came up with 9 dealers;
Dealer Locator - Branson Tractors
just enter your town and then start expanding the map area

There's none in NY near me. The ones in PA are like "Bud's tire shop". Not exactly a Large reputable dealer that's going to be around for a long time.

Might not be the tractor for you then. Lots of places deliver parts but Branson does have some dealer issues and that goes for anyone trying to gain market share. Sometimes Bud's tire Barn is what you have to go with. I bought mine from a small place that sells lawn mowers and tractors but they've been selling them for 8 years now.

I just do not understand the fixation on the "nearest dealer" subject!
I am an old guy, with three old tractors (youngest is 2006 Kubota L48 TLB).
I can do all the basic stuff, and replace parts.

The UPS/FedEx trucks come by every day.
I have a 14K equipment trailer.
The nearest dealer for any brand of tractor (Kubota) is 80+ miles away.
If a dealer offered free popcorn (like RK?), that would seem to be the only reason for me to visit a dealer,...... but I would certainly not drive 160 miles round trip to get it.
