Hey all,

I've been looking around for a couple months, and found a used 3520 locally that I like quite a bit. Being a first-time buyer, though, I'm a little hesitant to make a purchase on used equipment, even though the dealer who has it seems reputable (Scheffel Equipment - Somerset, PA).

My question: Given the serial number (LV3520P266231), can I find out the maintenance/warranty history of the tractor? It seems like it's just over 2 years old, so there should be a little less than a year of powertrain warranty left.

Any input or suggestions welcome.

Thanks

The dealer can provide that info based on the serial number or you can call JD and ask then using that serial number.

Thanks Nuru.

Like a previous poster said, IWannaBeLikeNuru2. There I was, thinking about a used 790, then along comes Nuru with a new 3520 cab. Well, I'll probably compromise and end up with a soft cab instead, but at least I got the HP boost and a more refined machine. :D

I appreciate the info.

your Welcome D-ROD; I gotta tell you, I was all set to keep my 4310 OS, and then, boom, I saw a couple of people get Cab tractors and then my dealer gave me a sweet deal on the 4310 as a trade in (they sold it before I got my 3520 from the facrtory!), and then they gave me a good discount on the new one, I was sold. And I got 3 hours in that on a hot day witht he 72" 7-iron going up and down my slopes and I really got way too comfortable - I was going out of my way to stay out there - too funny. i learned quite a bit about the stability of the 3x20 series cabs and they are fine if you get the right stance. I have those Turf specials (Extra wide Turf tires for mowing) and they are doing the trick. I thought i might need hub extenders but nope, these big boys I got for the 4310 were fine. i wish i did not have to spend the bucks to change the wheels for the rear but my safety is tops and now i can work my entire property with this unit and not worry about falling over, without a huge lapse of focue or a sudden unknown drop off of the ground!

If you can get a cab, go for it. If I was not so in a hurry, i might have saved at least $2k - 4k on buying a used one - 2006.. I actually got a 2006 MMM for my 2008 unit. Saved about $1700 there.

Used cab, might be in your future! I have seen used 2007 and now used 2008's, there is a big discount there with negotiation!

Good luck!

That serial number shows it's out of warranty. Never been rented. Never had a warranty claim on it.

There has never been any maintainence performed at the dealer. Unless it was off the books.

Looks clean on paper.

Where did you find that from?

Thanks Wheels - help like that is sure appreciated.

Prior to seeing your post, I took Nuru's advice and called JD - got right thru, very friendly. They took the S/N, and gave me all the info they had in about 2 minutes. They indicated that although the basic warranty (2 years) was up in June, there is still a powertrain warranty until next June. They also showed no service or warranty work.

Thanks again for the help. Now if I can just overcome my cheap nature (or would that be frugal - oh, same difference), I need to go buy the thing. Reading the tractor addiction thread helps - in a roomful of addicts, I feel far better about jumping in ;)

Just my input...If your considering a cab...save a few extra bucks and buy the factory cab from the get go..
When I started Shopping I was in the Open Station mood...my entire family told me to "Buy a FACTORY Cabbed Machine"...not that I didnt want a cabbed machine, but with a wedding this fall, garage build plans and everything else, I figured I'd get the tractor now and a cab later...kinda like Nuru, after some serious shopping, I was presented with an offer on a brand new 3520 Cab I couldnt refuse...3 months later, I'm LOVING my cabbed machine and I'm glad I put the garage on hold for a few months...Wouldnt buy a tractor without a factory cab....

I have had a 3720 open station for 13 months. Should be getting my cab this weekend or early next week. Get the cab and save some money in the long run.

I suspect an awful lot of us, myself included, do our own service and that may very well be the case here on the tractor you are looking at. There would be no service records unless included with owner's manual.
If I were you I'd ask the dealer for the previous owner's name to discuss condition and servicing with him/her. This is quite common around these parts. Recently a prospective buyer of a tractor I had traded called me about the tractor condition. Last year another guy called me about a truck I had traded. The prospective buyers purchased in both cases since there was nothing wrong with either and were serviced as specified by manufacturer.

BTW, I am quite happy with my 14 month old 3720 w/cab. Good luck.
