I am looking for a small tractor with a FEL to use on my property. I have a total of 1 acre, with about 1/4 acre that still needs to be cleared of brush, stone and small trees. I've just started looking and came across a 3 year old JD 2320 with 200CX loader and a 62" drive on deck. It has 300 hours on it. Dealer told me it came off a commercial growing operation that he's been selling to forever. The farm trades in every three years. Dealer started off asking for $13,000 and when I left we were at $11,700 cash. Unit is larger than I think I want long term, but would be a nice size for the next couple of years worth of projects. After that would probably trade down for something a a little smaller with a FEL.

The unit was just taken in so they had done nothing as far as cleaning or maintenance. Looking over the unit its been used, maybe a little abused. I saw a couple of issues and don't know enough about tractors to know if they are major or minor.
Hood was dented, probably from stuff rolling back off the loader.
Front axle seal by the wheel was leaking.
Engine coolant level was low.
Front frame cross member was bent. Looks like it was driven into a pole, no damage to front grill.

Dealer said they would fix seal and check all other systems for leaks and proper levels. Rear axle did have the correct fluid level looking through the sight glass. Hood I cosmetic, I think, and saves me the trouble of denting it. Dealer said he would heat and straighten the front frame member. He also stated it's real purpose was to hang weights from.

Dealer will warranty the unit, loader and deck for 90 days.

My questions:
Is this a good price?
Should I be concerned about the front frame cross member being bent?
What else should I be looking at? Is there a "Here's what to look for checklist" when shopping for a used tractor somewhere?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd hesitate on this one. The price is just OK and the amount of damage seems excessive for 300 hours - like it hasn't been treated well. (I'd worry about the management of a company that trades in 3 year old tractors with 300 hours.)

More importantly, it's way too much tractor for 1 acre. I would suggest either a 2305 or the new small models, or more practically, rent a tractor. I'm not sure what you have to do with the quarter acre, but a day with a tractor should take it down to bedrock and build it back up.

Seriously, I think everyone should have a tractor but I have to stretch to utilize my 2320 on 4 acres. You might be better off with a good mower and maybe a much older, cheaper tractor.

I agree that it's too much tractor for my property. I set out looking for something like a John Deere 2305 or Kubota BX2360 size. I think that size would be ideal for mowing and meet all my other needs without being too much tractor.

Just came across the 2320 and thought I would ask about it. Thanks for the help.

I'd hesitate on the tractor too...but only due to condition. I dont think the 2320 is too big for 1 acre at all. I have a 2520 and only a little over 2 acres. I am doing alot of landscaping as its a new house and we had over 110 loads of dirt halled in...plenty of retaining walls, etc. But it has been really nice having the power, lift capacity, etc for us and altho we arent mowing with it, I've considered it.

Thanks for the input. I've decide to pass on this and keep on looking for something in better shape and smaller.

I sold my 2007 2320 last year for $11,500 cash private party. It had 120 hours, the 200x loader and a 4ft brush hog. It was kept covered and in very good condition. I also do not think that a 2320 is too big, I had to upgrade to a 3320 to manage what I wanted a tractor to do and I only have 5 acres and a gravel driveway.

I was heavily considering a 2305 when I bought my 2320 and dont regret spending the extra money for the 2320.. Size wise I enjoy the higher ground clearance AND (the biggie after reading posts on here) no transmission fan to break off by accident..

just my thoughts..

For the OP , it's only $1350 more for the B2320 combo of Unit,MMM,Fel & BB vs. a BX2660 version ; that's 7.6% more for an utterly different
machine. If I could get those prices here , I'd be on B2320 MMM rather than
my BX ........... Trade-in value is much sweeter too ........
You could also waste hundreds on covering the fan , which "eats"
the price difference. Having had a go with both these loaders , there's no comparison IMO

Rnjohnsoninc.com just got in a 2320 with 47 hours on it. It would be interesting to see what they want for that when they get it up on their web site. I just looked at it real quickly, but didn't see anything major wrong with it.
Having had both the BX22, and my B2620 I would agree that the B2620 is a lot more pleasant to run, and I feel much more secure in the woods with it. I do think the hydraulics are slower on this new series than they were on the older B7610, etc.
Saw a new B3030 with those same big R-4 tires that the B3300SU comes with yesterday. Is that an option now? If it is they better start putting a step on those tractors too. :D
