I posted the same question about a month ago. I am close to pulling the trigger, maybe this week, so I need some reassurance. Used 2210 is a 2005 with 140 hours. I know the guy that traded it in and it has been pampered, mainly used for mowing. Machine has 200CX and 54" MMM (I know this is less desirable than 62"). Feel like I can buy for an even 10,000. New 2305 with 200CX and 62" is going to run about 13,500 and 0% is a consideration. I am leaning toward the used machine because of savings and I know history. Please provide last minute thoughts.

Thanks

$3500 for brand new vs used. That is a question you'll have to answer for yourself, although if you are able to write a check for the 2210, you could think of it as if you put that amount into a 5.25% CD. Over 3 years that would eat into a chunk of the $3500. As you pointed out, the 54" deck is less desirable, although it is nice that the 2210 has the 200CX. Why was the 2210 traded in?

JDFANATIC thanks for the reply. The 2210 was traded in for a larger tractor-not sure of model.

I would go used, I have a 54 inch on my Kubota and have no wants for a 62.. the 3 yr old is just getting broken in and has already depreciated... it is like getting a new puppy vs, dog, do you really want to have to train her?

There's enough difference in price that I'd probably go with the used unit.... assuming it looks and runs nearly new. I agree with JDF about the 54" decks. I've had more than one dealer tell me that the 54" deck kills the resale value on any of the S-Cuts or Cuts. I would ask the dealer to put a 62" deck under your unit even if it meant paying a few more bucks to switch. That may not be a concern of yours though... For me, I never know how long I'm going to keep anything... to much fun tinkering. :D

Have fun shopping.

Personally, I like to purchase new, but the fact is when you pay 10K for the used one, the relative value of that machine will only go down slightly compared to the 2305 if you ever decide to trade. That is, a two year old 2305, as you describe the 2210 will be worth the same ~10K, so a $3,500 loss. Now, the 2210, two years from now, will have more hours (300 hours compared to say 150 hrs on a new 2305, two years down the road) and it's value would be around 8.5 to 9K, so a modest loss.

Go NEW if $$$$ isn't an issue, but if on a budget get the used.
Our 2210 was **** solid, even after it had 250 hrs on it! :D

If you're financing the $10,000 @ 7% you're looking at ~$1300 in interest alone - now you're saving ~$2,000 vs. new. This does not take into account the price increase from the dealer if you switch from a 54C to 62C MMM - that will be at least a few hundred.

If you take the 0% and keep your money in the bank (with the exception of the 10% downpayment required) you can put it in short-term CD's and make interest.

I'm not worried about the hours, 140 should be a drop in the bucket for these machines.

You'd be one model out of date (not a huge deal, 2210 and 2305 are very close), 140 hours on it and whatever you'd have left for JD warranty (if any).

If it was me (and it was last summer) I'd go new with the 0%.

Good luck!

Scott makes a great point.... I was assuming you're writing a check for the used unit. If you decide to finance instead... and rates are the typical 7-8% over the next 4-5 yrs then I would go new as well.... Have fun!

And the dealer doesn't want the 54" deck. If you upgrade to it, he's likely to give you nothing for it. If this is true, then you're closing the gap quickly.
