This may have been asked before, but my searching skills aren't that great. My house that I'm getting ready to move into sits back from the road about 800 feet and we have a gate with an electronic opener at the entrance of the driveway.
How do I handle bulk deliveries from UPS or FedEx? I was thinking about using a big plastic weather proof box covered by some fencing to make it look nice or something like that. Anybody have a solution to keep the weather and thieves from messing with deliveries like this?

If I am expecting an expensive delivery I have it delivered to my work. If you are home perhaps you can install a Remote doorbell or intercom system and a sign that says for deliveries press buzzer.

Tell them to hold them at the depot for pickup.

I've got a similar situation, except the house is 1/2 mile behind the gate. Delivery drivers will plastic-wrap stuff if the weather is wet or threatening. My BIL also has the same deal - he programs his gate operator with a code of 1-2-3-4 and delivery drivers come right to his house. It took a few deliveries from each service to get the local drivers "trained". I think that such a simple to guess code is an invitation to trouble. We sometimes program in 1-2-3-4 temporarily for contractors and such, but don't leave it that way.

Now regarding thieves, you're in Texas, right? Smith and Wesson should discourage them! Seriously, your notion of something to hide a package from sight is probably good, as long as you are successful in training your drivers to actually put something IN it.

I have had good drivers that open my gate and bring a package to the front door and others (most ) just drop it over the fence wrapped in plastic if raining or threatening.
Last week I had FedEx drop my tire across the street at my neighbors. The tracking said delivered so I had to go looking for it. I guess he didn't know how to read a GPS. UPS does a better job I think than Fedup.

How about the box idea with a twist, leave it unlocked but leave a padlock and a note inside that says lock after delivery.

We seldom get the same person as a driver/delivery person. Hmmmm are they always guys? Sure seems that way. Anyway, our home is 1/2 mile over a hill from the gate. Yes, we have and do use for one of the codes, the address number as a code. Wide open for problems, yes, perhaps; but if they really want to get to me tthey just need to wrap a chain around the gate itself and open it that way. We do have cameras and security road alarms, that work, to tell us that someone and who is on the road. The gate and opener keep the idiots out and now, for over 10 years it has done a fine job.
I truly welcome with my pump 12 ga., M1 Garrand, wife's 20 ga. pump, and various calibers of concealed carry and home protection/defense hand guns,........the folks that think that can get by the minimal defense that the gate provides, the road alarms, the cameras with movement alarms, 5 livestock guard dogs, and 2 border collies will be eagerly greeted by an old guy and wife WANTING to use up their ammunition on them.

That said, we have tried for years to get a gate code in the delivery systems computers. When we call the company they readily tell us about it and specific directions to the driver's that we have provided for driver information that shows up on their handheld delivery devices. The driver though, seldom sees that or looks for it. Often, MOST OFTEN, we track delivery on packages and KNOW when they will be there. Even then perhaps 40% of the time, the driver will follow the directions as posted on the package or their computer and make it to the house. Often, they leave it at the barn which they pass before the house. Perhaps 25% of the time they leave it inside the gate and put it in a plastic bag. Even the mail lady knows the number, our addy on the mail box, and when it is certified or important looking, will bring it on up to the house.............

So, give it your best shot and just look at them coming IN the gate, as a test of your defense system.........Does it work???..........God bless...........Dennis

Our FEDEX and UPS drivers have a notebook they carry with gate codes and have been very good to pass codes along when they get replaced by new drivers.

Unfortunately, the USPS mail lady claims local postmaster forbids them from using a gate code and entering a property? She does bring packages to the house if gate is open though.

Years ago we used a box and padlock idea that bandaidmd said. At our present property we don't have to anymore. Being my wife and/or I are almost always home, we just use the UPS or FedEx tracking system to know when they have a package to deliver. Both our UPS and FedEx drivers are on a schedule that very rarely varies. UPS is between 3pm and 4pm and FedEx is exactly 2:50pm. We will just wait for them at the gate or leave it open for them.

Ha! The local post office told me they are forbidden from opening gates (I have a bridge to sell also). Now that the gate is no longer closed, they still will not bring anything to the house.
