We seldom get the same person as a driver/delivery person. Hmmmm are they always guys? Sure seems that way. Anyway, our home is 1/2 mile over a hill from the gate. Yes, we have and do use for one of the codes, the address number as a code. Wide open for problems, yes, perhaps; but if they really want to get to me tthey just need to wrap a chain around the gate itself and open it that way. We do have cameras and security road alarms, that work, to tell us that someone and who is on the road. The gate and opener keep the idiots out and now, for over 10 years it has done a fine job.
I truly welcome with my pump 12 ga., M1 Garrand, wife's 20 ga. pump, and various calibers of concealed carry and home protection/defense hand guns,........the folks that think that can get by the minimal defense that the gate provides, the road alarms, the cameras with movement alarms, 5 livestock guard dogs, and 2 border collies will be eagerly greeted by an old guy and wife WANTING to use up their ammunition on them.
That said, we have tried for years to get a gate code in the delivery systems computers. When we call the company they readily tell us about it and specific directions to the driver's that we have provided for driver information that shows up on their handheld delivery devices. The driver though, seldom sees that or looks for it. Often, MOST OFTEN, we track delivery on packages and KNOW when they will be there. Even then perhaps 40% of the time, the driver will follow the directions as posted on the package or their computer and make it to the house. Often, they leave it at the barn which they pass before the house. Perhaps 25% of the time they leave it inside the gate and put it in a plastic bag. Even the mail lady knows the number, our addy on the mail box, and when it is certified or important looking, will bring it on up to the house.............
So, give it your best shot and just look at them coming IN the gate, as a test of your defense system.........Does it work???..........God bless...........Dennis
