Hi. I would be most grateful for advice, since we may spend in the neighborhood of $50K and I do not want to make a mistake by getting the wrong machine. We are in middle TN and leaning toward staying with Kubota.
I work part time for a gentleman on his 160 acre country home. He has a Kubota L2501 with loader and several implements and a zero turn mower for around the house. Property is mostly wooded. Has about 25 acres total mowing area. 3or 4 of those acres are mowed with the zero turn. We use the tractor every week. Since I only work 2 days a week for him, we want to make tractor work go faster and be much more practical. Took me 12 hours to bushog the ippper 10 acres a month back. Owber is ready to get a tractor more suitable for his property.
Bushogging or finish mowing is currently a very slow effort. Takes about an hour an acre to bush hog when we let a more remote field get taller. Even when we get to it beofre it is very tall, it is a snail pace do to lack of power.
Compactness is nice because of the ability to get in around obstacles. Prefer to do least amount of damage to grass when riding over it.
Neighbor has an MX5200 that we have borrowed once or twice and it has a lot more power.
I was considering a Loader Tractoir Backhoe 50 or 60 HP as they are apparently very tough. Also considering MX in the 50 or 60Hp range and then the L series in the 50-60 range. No matter I will get a backhoe attachment. I saw a video that showed mentioned the MX is more simple, yet beefier than the L series. And it also mentioned that the LTB are extremely robust for abusive environments.
Not sure if they are all equally easy/difficult to attach/detach backhoe, or if the LTB is easier?
The video mentioned that the MX might be tougher on the grass than the L series, so it made me wonder also.
Areas where tractor operates mostly is:
Bushogging 3 fields - 10, 6, 5 acres each
Bushogging one turkey hunting area with many bush/tree obstacles - 7 acres
Bushogging along embankment on 4 lakes from 1/8 acre to 5 acre lake/pond, also large levy for bigger lake.
Can also finish mow the 5 and 6 acre field instead of bushhogging.
Backhoe- Many tasks such as digging out smaller spring fed creek after severe rains/flooding that happens every few years or even twice this year.
Also have a chirt pit on property for repair work. Chirt is a soil, clay, rock composition that is all around this part of middle tennessee. All the dirt roads are made from this. Backhoe is needed to loosen this from pit wall.
Lifting and loading tasks abound.
Grapple: fallen trees, brosh, cleaning, trimming.
Thank you for your advice.
