Update on Kohler command 23hp oil keak

I have been chasing an oil leak on my mower since I got it. Figured it is coming from the oil filter. I have been taught, and have replaced every oil filter in my life, by hand (at least tigtening). Well, I think my oil flange has a slight warp. It finally took me putting a wrench to the filter and it all tightened down.... No more leaks but getting it off will be a doozey.

too bad hope it works out, are these engens known for this problem, was thinking of getting a cub cadet gt. with a with a 20 hp.

I always follow the instructions on the filter -- they usually want 3/4 to 1 turn after contact. Normally that is more than I can do by hand.

I am more like 1.5 turns now. I have never had an issue with a 3/4 turn by hand but there is a new time for everyone. As for the Kohler, I think it is a well built engine. It is no Honda but even they have their issues....

What type of oil filter are you using? When I run into that type of problem, I try to get an oil filter with a thicker gasket on it. Usually works for me.

Napa / wix... What brand would have a thicker gasket?

try briggs.

Double check that its your filter seal leaking rather than the drain plug. My drain plug kept wanting to shake loose and leak oil. I had to add loctite to the treads.
