Thinking about getting the kit for the upright exhaust on my 4310. I was wondering what experiences everyonercan share on the conversion and the riding experience? I have noticed I smell more like spent diesel on the 4310 vs my former 4100. Chime in at a high rate please!:)

The vertical exhaust kit is fairly straight forward to add to your tractor. I put it on my cab JD 3720. Just need a keyhole saw big enough for the opening in the hood. I am not sure if it is different for a 4310. It does make the exhaust smell much less noticeable when working on the ground around the tractor. Just lift in on/off to remove when opening the hood. No difference in the noise level.

His 4310 tractor might need the same exhaust stack as I had put on my JD4200. You had to cut a half circle out of the side of the hood. The exhaust on my machine was fixed and stayed on while you lifted the hood. It wasn't a two peice exhaust like you and I now have on our 3720 cab tractors.

However, even if it is the same as what I had on my JD4200, I still loved it much more than the low exhaust. Especially since I added a Jodale Perry Cab to that tractor, the fumes on the low exhaust always crept up and into the cab, (of course it wasn't a preasurized cab like we have now) but it was very dangerous and smelly. I highly recommend the verticals.

I've resisted putting the raised vertical exhaust on my 4600 - mostly due to the fact that I didn't want to cut the hood and the JD Dealer advised against it. That being said, what is the Perry Cab that you mentioned?

Vertical exhaust kit here and I can't think of a single reason not to do it. Less heat down the left side when mowing in the summer and less smell when doing anything year round. I ran mine stock (low exhaust) for the first year and a half, then switched.

dmp437, did you have to cut the hood? If so, does it have to come off if you open the hood? Also if it does come off, is it quick or is it cumbersome?

radman, you mention it comes off, how easy is that?

I have been looking down the road at a cab, and was wondering if the fumes would potentially be a problem. For some reason, I seem to notice the fumes on this tractor more than my 4100. I have thought about the exhaust stack but do have a few low hanging branches to cut probably.
