My 2005 New Holland TN65D needs a little brake fluid. I looked in the manual and its absolutely no help at all. Other than New Holland LHM oil or NH 610 A its a mystery! I went to several auto parts stores(NAPA and Advanced Auto parts) and they have no idea what type of fluid to use for my brakes! They say even the" INTERNATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS" number(ISO 7308) means nothing to them! One clerk said I needed to go to "AN International" dealer! Help! Are they dense or is the true brake fluid for this tractor a top secret? Is it a Dot 3, 4, or 5 or something else? I would go to the nearest New Holland dealer but it is a much longer ride than to an auto parts place. Several of our local New Holland dealers have gone out of business or switched to John Deere dealerships! What is the secret formulation?

Brake fluid? What leads you to that conclusion?

Do you have a brake fluid reservoir ?

Not that familiar with the TN65D, but would think the brakes would be wet disks running in the tranny fluid.

How about giving you dealer/s a phone call instead of driving to them. Let your fingers do the walking.

I called up two New Holland dealers. All they claim to know is that New Holland has brake fluid for my tractor. Its $7.00 a quart if I want to make the 50 mile trip. They said they don't know what it is. I think its mineral spirits, but not sure. Yes, I have a brake fluid reservior on my TN65D. Auto parts store 5 miles- New Holland dealership 25 miles each way. I don't believe New Holland has a magic special fluid for my brakes!

Guess I'll have to bite several bullets and pickup a new fanbelt, some extra 134 transmission fluid and the mysterious International ISO 7308 brake fluid! This should help thin my wallet. You know the saying- "you have to pay to play!" Thanks for everyones input. Ken

At first I thought someone was setting you up for the Grand BOHICA but it appears your tractor does have a brake reservoir. And it is NOT compatible with the glycol based DOT products. Either buy the dealer stuff or look for Delphi LHM +

This premium performance mineral-based hydraulic fluid has been specifically developed for use in vehicles requiring this type of fluid, such as some Citro?s. This fluid contains special additives to protect against pump wear and to give excellent rust and corrosion protection as well as prevent sludge formation and consequential filter blocking. A high viscosity index, particularly at low temperatures, gives excellent flow rates throughout the system, together with impressive film strength and fluid performance. It is formulated to meet the higher specification requirements of ISO 7308, Ford ESN M6C59A and Citro? LHM B71 2710 (Post 1985).
Note: Delphi LHM+ mineral-based fluid is not compatible with hydraulic systems requiring a glycol-based fluid. To differentiate it, it is dyed green and system components which use mineral-based fluid are colour coded green.

Your auto parts guy wasn't dense, he was smart enough not to sell you a DOT brake fluid which would probably ruin the seals in your brake master cylinders and slave pistons.

Why on earth is it in New Holland's best interests to openly and freely give cross-reference information for its fluids and filters? That's the job of the aftermarket suppliers who are trying to get that market share, isn't it? New Holland supplies an internationally recognized specification (ISO 7308) and if nobody understands it or offers a product matching it, why is that NH's fault? It seems as though the Delphi LHM+ oil would work. It has the correct base stock and claims to meet the ISO 7308. $7 per quart isn't a lot for a specialty fluid, and a quart will last you several years unless you develop a leak somewhere. You'd almost think a dealer would carefully box up a quart and ship it if the 50 mile roundtrip is too much. We ship parts out daily. Ford and New Holland have been using this brake fluid and its predecessor part numbers for over 30 years in tractors; it's nothing new.
