I have been looking at buying a used Tracked skid steer loader (CTL). I have talked to several people about the cost to rebuild the undercarriage and have gotten several different prices some low to extremely high numbers. What I would like to know what is the total cost that you paid to have your undercarriage rebuilt so that I can see the prices for the different brands. This would really help me and others to decide on the best machine for our budgets. I know different uses will see the undercarriage last less or more hours. I would like to get real number rather than take a dealerships words from their sales guy.

Examples that I would like to see is
(brand x) $ 7K for tracks and all rollers idlers and Sprockets at (x Hours)

If you are looking at CTLs your best bet would be to Google "CTL undercarriage parts" and start calling around. A CTL undercarriage will be less to rebuild than an MTL(ASV/CAT style undercarriage). I think the way to look at it is from a dealer support angle as well, who's closest in your area and are people in the area happy with them. Even if you don't buy a machine from the dealer chances are someday you may need to go back to them for a repair or parts.

If you are looking at CTLs your best bet would be to Google "CTL undercarriage parts" or "mini excavator undercarriage parts" and start calling around. Do you need a CTL over a SS? I've read where you can expect around $10/hr. in undercarriage operating costs in general. Like Tags stated, all that's "out the window" with the ASV u/c, much more. There are a few "underfoot" conditions where CTL's excell, but for raw digging, mud, wood's work and in the snow, a SS with metal (over the tire or OTT) will out perform a rubber track machine in the traction dept. Tire chains for the big snows. That's not saying that they are useless just on tires either.
It depends on your use and conditions.

For accuracy, the cost of replacing the ASV undercarriage is usually overstated. You don't have to replace the entire undercarriage at once. You can replace wheels as they wear our. Tracks cost basically the same as CTL tracks. The sprockets are designed differently, but they're less expensive than replacing a CTL sprocket wheel. Pump/drive motors are the same.

...
But we'd need more info from you. What type of work are you planning to do? What type of surfaces will you be on?

Wheels units are definitely WAAAAYYYY less expensive to purchase, maintain, own, etc.
