I have a VPN/Remote Desktop connection for work, but I cannot connect to the Remote Desktop when I use my home wireless connection, but it will connect for my co-workers. I can connect if I use a Cingular/AT&T aircard.

Back story I was able to connect when I used Earthlink as my ISP, but about the time I switched to Verizon it stopped working. I originally thought my problem was due to my modem being a modem/router (Verizon using a Westell 6100 modem). So I put the modem in bridge mode and that didn稚 help. Then I figured out my co-worker could get into the Remote Desktop without any changes to the modem settings.

Based on being able to connect via aircard but not connect wirelessly, and that my coworkers can connect without problems, I don稚 know what the problem could be. IF i wasn稚 able to connect via aircard I would think my Remote Desktop settings were messed up.

Any suggestions? Thoughts? Ideas?

Can your coworkers connect from your home network or are they connecting from their own networks using Verizon's service? Two things I can think of:

1. If your IP address space happens to overlap the VPN's address space your computer may get confused as to what should go where. This would affect any computer on your home network.

2. There may be something weird with your PC's wireless settings, perhaps disabling the firewall or other security software would help? If it does re-enable the software one at a time to track down which one it is and you may be able to set up an exception.

Another thing to try is to use an Ethernet cable to get a wired connection to the router. If the wireless isn't reliable enough due to a low signal or excess traffic it may be dropping enough of the packets to kill the remote connection.

This assumes you're at home and want to control your work PC. If you're at work and want to control your home PC you'll need port forwarding enabled on your router, and you may need to change some of your firewall rules if your co-workers can connect but you can't.

thanks Ill try to answer your questions the best I can

1) Coworkers and use my home wireless and get access to the VPN/Remote Desktop. I can connect to the VPN, but the remote desktop will NOT connect. At my coworkers homes, using their wireless, I can connect to the VPN and remote desktop without any problem.

2) Ill try see if the wireless card and the air card are set up differently. I originally thought my new ISP was the problem because I could connect with the air card..

I work from home and only want to get access to network drives and email (although we have email via the web, which is what i use mostly)

thanks

You might want to try using LogMeIn to connect. It is a simple to use, more secure and faster than remote access. They have a Free and Paid versions.
