The new D Toolcats are experiencing a cooling fan issue. Until the problem is corrected I'd advise waiting on your purchase of a new D machine. Bobcat will figure it out and will fix it I'm certain but as of now, all 3 of the new machines we have delivered have gone down in 3 or 4 hours. The fan isn't coming on when it's supposed to. The factory is working on it as we speak.

Just hold off a bit. This doesn't affect the prior series, just the "D"s.

what does "gone down" mean? are they overheating? how are you diagnosing this problem?

thx for the update

"gone down" = no fan + overheating. That is my guess.

Yes, overheating. We've delivered 3 machines to local municipalities and all 3 have overheated within 3-4 hours of use. As best I can tell, the fan is "locking up" and won't come on. Think of an air compressor without a dump valve. The compressor can't run if there is pressure in the tank because the pump can't overcome the initial pressure. It's like that with the fans- they're hydraulic but something is keeping them from starting once the engine is hot. They work fine when the engine is cold and warms up but once the engine is hot, if the machine is shut off the fan won't come on again. We're working closely with the factory to see why this is happening and I think it will be resolved pretty quickly. I will say that the D series is a really nice machine, even more so than the previous Toolcats which weren't bad in the first place. The ride is phenomenal compared to the previous models and the power/traction/performance advantages are significant.

They'll get 'em fixed and they'll be good.

many d's have been sold over the summer - you would think this would be happening like mad if 3 of yours have the problem? did they change a supplier for a part of the fan system?

thx

Supplier is Sundstrand and it is due to a tolerance issue. The fans have been changed and kits are available to fix the issue. The three we've done so far have exhibited NONE of the original issue so as of now, the problem has been fixed.

Carry on.

ANY WAY TO KNOW FROM A BUILD DATE IF THE FIX IS NEEDED? CAN A DEALER CALL AND FIND OUT FROM BOBCAT IF NEEDED OR IS IT A RANDOM EVENT THAT WILL ONLY BE FIXED IF THE MACHINE OVERHEATS?

AS ALWAYS,
THX FOR THE UPDATES

Truthfully I don' know but I'd guess any machine with a build date of sometime after May should be OK. I'm guessing there so don't take that as gospel.
