I have heard a few people talk about a UCC Filing that the tractor maker files with the state of residence of the tractor purchaser. I just searched the forums and I can't tell if a UCC is filed with the state if the tractor purchase is a cash deal (eg. No financing).

Can anyone provide more info? I live in CT and would like to avoid paying sales tax if possible /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Thanks,
Norm

A UCC is filed by a financial instituition that has an interest in your tractor. That is usually filed in your state of residence if you take out a fixed loan for the tractor. If you pay cash, then no UCC is filed, since you're all paid up and they have no interest in the tractor at all. If you take Kubota's revolving credit loan, no UCC is filed either.

Just be careful in CT if you're trying to avoid paying their tax. I understand that they are the most agressive in trying to recoup unpaid sales tax.

SPEEDY pretty much gave you some great info. are you buying from a dealer? if so you will have to pay the tax anyhow, whether cash or not. unless your are qualified as a farm, be very careful tho as some states are really strick on such qualifications.

I bought my tractor (B3030) in Michigan. I took advantage of the 0% financing with KCC and received a copy of the UCC filing a few weeks later. Maybe it varies from state to state on whether or not they file the UCC with KCC financing.

I think amigauser was planning on buying out of state, and having it psuedo-shipped (read: picked up). That way, the out of state dealer does not have to collect tax as it is an out-of-state sale, kinda like mail order. Or you could also buy from a state with no sales tax.

Usual disclaimers about trying to deprive your local taxman apply...

Correct, I will probably purchase out of state.

I purchase most electronics Etc. mail order. Kubota pricing in the North East is high to say the least. I plan on at least looking into an out of state purchase. I know shipping may cancel out any tax savings so I will probably work it both ways.

Thanks again.

If you buy in New Hampshire (no sales tax state) and have a truck, you could rent a trailer and haul it home to CT yourself. Take the current 0 payment/0% interest for 6 months revolving credit deal from KCC, and you have 6 months of free money, AND they give you $500 back for opening that account. And no UCC on revolving credit.
