I have a TZ25DA with 125 hrs on it. I like everything about the tractor until I push down on the back up pedal. This thing is a dog backing up, no power or speed, always been this way, I'm just getting more frustrated as time goes on. Is there some kind of adjustment I can make to try and get more out of it while backing up?

Thanks,
Marty

Marty, welcome to TBN. I hope you'll find help with your specific tractor complaint. I don't own a TZ25DA, so I can't give you any specific advice. I do think you could give us a little more info about your tractor. Saying it is a "dog" in reverse says a lot more about how you feel about the tractor's performance than what it is really doing. Here are some questions you might answer to help us respond better:

1. What kind of tires do you have? (Ags, R4, turf)
2. Are the wheels spinning but the tractor won't go, or all tires not moving?
3. Are you in the lowest range?
4. Are you on a hill?
5. Do you have a load in the FEL bucket? If so, do you have 4wd engaged?
6. What is the comparitive speed between forward and reverse? Is reverse about 1/2 speed, or 1/4 speed, or less?
7. Have you talked to your dealer's service manager about a pedal adjustment?

Okay, that's lots of questions, but all those things have a bearing on the type of problem you have. I think if you give us a little more info, we may be able to respond with more helpful information rather than just sympathy.

Marty,

I have a TC33D and was a little discouraged how fast my reverse was. I found a bolt under my hydro rocker pedal that when I pressed the pedal for reverse it bottomed out on this bolt. The bolt was adjustable and I was able to lower it thus allowing the pedal to index further and it increased my reverse a considerable amount. Not sure if your tractor has a similar setup, but it may be worth a look.

I have the same type of issues with my 2003 TC-24D. It just doesn't have the power or speed in reverse as what it does going forward. There isn't any way to adjust my pedal to go any farther in reverse. It is already bottomed out.

I have the identical machine to Jim, but have not noticed much of a difference between forward and reverse. Now, I do run out of power before running out of traction going forward most of the time with the pressure relief valve kicking in, maybe my reverse is the same as yours and I just never had full power going forward, so I never knew what I was missing!

I'm just kidding, I have a lot of traction so I don't spin very often. But I have not ever really noticed a problem in reverse other than when a hunk of ice gets caught under the heel pedal, preventing me from full engagement. Seems like there should be some kind of adjustment. Have you asked the dealer about any adjustments?

You're not the first to ask this question.

I believe there is an adjustment; but if you want faster reverse you lose forward speed and vice versa.

Found the problem:D. When I had the mower deck off getting things ready for spring I crawled underneath and looked around. Discovered that the bracket that attaches the linkage to the frame was loose. When I was pushing down on the pedal I was loosing more than half the travel. Apparently it came that way so I didn't know any different. Oh well, I'm happy with the tractor now.

We just fixed my daughter's TZ22A last week, the reverse pedal was completely down. There are 2 bolts that hold the linkage mechanism to the frame. We applied red threadlocker and torqued down the bolts. You have to remove the rubber pad and the cover under it to get to the top of the bolts. Item 14 in the attached .jpg is the bracket.
