Typical Skid Steer Coupler?

I am finishing up my 3rd function install on my Kubota L39 and it is time to decide on a coupling standard.

I currently have a grapple bucket from a skid steer that I believe has 3/4" flush face couplers. Is this "typical" on skid steers? Since I have to buy couplings to either match the tractor this this or this to the tractor I just assume buy what I am most likely to encounter on a FRONT 3rd function: skid steer.

Does "standardizing" on 3/4" flush face make sense?

Yes, it does make good sense. Most rental companies in this area use the flat face type. I would check what they use in your neck of the woods. Maybe I am wrong but my flat face couplers seem to release better and do not leak as much when not coupled. Downside is they are alittle more costly upfront.

I have noticed the cost, but I really can't avoid all cost as I have 2 different standards and they won't work currently. So I figure if I have to spend something, spending an extra $20 now seems to make good sense.

At same time the skid loader manufactures elected to use a standardized Quick Attach system they also included standardized hydrualic couplers, 3/4 flat face, so if you are going to be using or renting skid loader attachments that is what you will find on them.

That is great to know. In a weird twist of fate a buddy walked up and handed me a brand new pair of Iso Series A couplers...FREE.

I'll let you guess what is on the tractor/bucket now :thumbsup:

The 1/2" (nominal size) flush-face couplers are the most common.

I should add, be sure to double check what "size" you have now. Coupler sizes are nominal, and it can be difficult to identify what you have. Simply measuring the coupler won't tell you what size it is.

1/2 will flow as much as 19 GPM's.

3/4 will flow up to 39 GPM's

Are you talking about the thread size/hose size or face opening size.

My JD 110 TLB uses 1/2" flush face couplers.

Given the 19 GPM capacity of the 1/2" size, you are never going to need anything bigger on your L39.

The 3/4" couplers are much more expensive than the 1/2" versions.

The L39 has 23.4 GPM's total flow.

Power steering will take about 6.2 GPM's, leaving 17.2 for the other hyd. .

1/2 in should work fine.
