TYM 273
Hi,

I've never posted on this forum but I've used it extensively to diagnose and repair my TYM. So this will be my chance to give back a little. :)

I have a 2008 273 that I purchased new, but now needs some TLC so I decided a seat replacement was in the works. After searching ebay, amazon and several after-market seat websites, I literally came away with more questions than answers!

So I went to my local tractor dealer (Kubota) and found a few seats that wouldn't hurt my wallet too much. What I discovered right away is that most small tractor/mower seats are in the 18"-19.5" wide range and have 10"-16" back heights. There was a Kubota branded seat that would almost fit width-wise 17.5" but only had a 13" back height and was $$$. So I started researching further and found a seat that was 17" wide (same as original and maximum width for TYM 273), and was also fairly common on a lot of websites (Amazon, ebay, NorthernTool). But the one place that surprised me was Tractor Supply! Searching their website even allowed me to check if they carried it at my local store! It's a CountyLine Kubota Seat 530000BK-CNL.

As I stated above, the 17" width is maximum because of the seat belt reel on the left side. You could fit an 18" but the seat belt reel would get in the way so it would either have to be removed, or remount somehow. A 16" would give a slightly more tractor-centered mount (approx. 1/2") but I really can't tell the difference without staring at it for a while. Mounting can be an issue since you can't just bolt this into place. The new seat layout is for Kubota so it can't be mounted without laying out and drilling 4 new holes. You can see in the pics how close I had to drill my holes to the edge of the seat supports.

That said, I think this seat is what should have been on there in the first place. First; it's 1/2" shorter than the original so easier to climb in. Second; it's got some big drain holes to keep my rear dry. And third; although the back measures close to the same height as the original, it just feels more supportive to me. I mounted it with the seat support rails all the way to the front of the underside of the seat so it doesn't need to go all the way back and rub on the body. See the second picture.

Original - 22"d x 17"w x 18.5"h, Replacement - 21.5"d x 17"w x 18"h.
