Looked at a couple of the 5x03s at a dealer recently. Both had their tachs marked in two places for PTO operation:
-1700 RPM was marked 'E-PTO' as I recall
-2400 RPM was marked 'PTO'
Didn't know E-PTO was available on the x03 models. Is it an option?

Looked at the control layout for quite some time trying to figure out how you would select one or the other. Couldn't identify anything that would do the job. Is this for real or do they just use this same tach on the more expensive tractors? JD site made no mention of Econo-PTO on these models.

I have a 5203 and noticed the indicator on the dash but not found a way to engage.

I think you have to move all the way up to the 5603 with cab to get the E-PTO.

On my 5525 with ePTO there is a n additional lever neat the PTO engagement lever. The PTO runs at the same speed (540 RPM), but the engine runs at a lower RPM and it still puts out 540RPM on the PTO.

Some tractors do have different PTO RPMs: 540 rpm and 1000 rpm. Typically you pull the shaft out and turn it around to change between the 2 speeds.

Ddivinia,
Yeah, that's what I was trying to say....540 RPM in either mode, but a lower engine RPM to get 540 in the economy mode. I'm aware of the 1000RPM PTOs and these tractors definitely didn't have that.

Sounds like the lower RPM mark on the tach is just a teaser for now. Too bad, it would be a nice feature. Wish I could justify/afford a 5x25.

Yeah, I think we just have the same tachs. Here's what I found on Deere's site regarding 540/540E:

Base Equipment On : 5325N, 5425N, 5525N, 5603
Optional Equipment On : 5225, 5325, 5425, 5525, 5525 Hi-Crop

I think 540E is one of the Premium tractor features, so you have to jump up to the series models to get it. They probably share the same instrument cluster. Limiting features/options is how JD (or anyone else) can keep prices low on the value tractors.

My 5525 cab has it if anybody needs a pic.
