L4200GST w/ LA680 & BX2200D w/ LA211
1) When I turn on the key, but don't start the engine (glow-plug position, I think), there is a rapid clicking sound, like an electric fuel pump running. I had a motorcycle that did that once, but it stopped once pressure was achieved. This doesn't seem to stop, although I haven't let it sit there clicking for more than a few seconds. Engine starts instantly upon hitting the starter. My L4200GST doesn't do any clicking that I've ever noticed.

2) I can hear a hissing when the engine is running - it sounds like the hissing you hear when a hydraulic relief valve is blowing off. I usually wear muffs, so I haven't heard it before, but noticed it when the tractor was as idle and I had my muffs off - I think I was standing behind the tractor when I noticed it, but could still hear it clearly standing to the side of the tractor. It does have something to do with the hydraulics, because it stopped and started when I worked the loader control. I thought it might have something to do with the hydrostatic drive, which I've never had before. I don't hear any hydraulic noise on my L4200GST, except when the relief valves are blowing off.

Thx - J

The clicking is an electric fuel pump down under the floorboards. It pumps more fuel than the engine will use and there is a return to the tank. That's why it doesn't ever stop. This is normal. It also makes bleeding your fuel filter a no-op.

Not sure about the second one.

Thanks Ray - anyone else with a BX notice a constant hydraulic hiss while running??

Incidentally, I was debugging / adding some lights and needed to leave the key on for quite a while, though not running. I asked my dealer if that was a problem and he confirmed that I would not burn out the pump with extended use. It just returns more fuel to the tank than if it were running.

Check to see if the lever that controls the deck height is in the center position. If the lever stays in the up position, the hydraulic system will stay in the bypass mode and make a noise.
