Two hydaulic fluid filters (hydraulic filter & HST filter) on Kioti CK2610 HST?

On the Kioti CK2610 HST, I noticed we have five filters to maintain/replace...
1. the oil filter,
2. the hydraulic filter,
3. the HST filter,
4. the fuel filter, and
5. the air filter.

My question is why is there both a hydraulic filter & also a hydrostat filter? Don't both systems circulate the same fluid? Is this just a redundant precaution, and if so, why not just have two filters that are of the same design. When I did my 50 hour service, I noticed the hydraulic filter and the HST filters are not the same filters...so I have been curious about it. I accept it, but never the less...thought it was strange because when adding fluid to the tractor it appears both filters clean the same fluid.

An hydrostatic transmission is a very sensitive transmission when it comes to fluid temperature, quality and cleanliness. On most HST tractors, the charge pump for the HST is the steering pump, so the fluid comes out of the steering control valve, goes through the HST filter, then through a cooler and feeds the HST with clean and colder fluid.

Long story short, yes, the filter is there for a reason. HST repairs will escalate fairly quickly.

The hst filter is usually a finer micron rating, and higher pressure filter. (Also more expensive).

SO it is like a two step filtration...the hydrostat filter for larger stuff, and then the HST filter for finer stuff before going through the HST itself.

The hydraulic filter is a suction filter located between the reservoir and hydraulic pump. The HST filter (also known as the hydrostatic filter) is a pressure filter between the charge pump and hydrostatic unit. The HST filter is typically of a smaller micron rating than the hydraulic filter.

All answers above are correct. While the tractor only has "one hydraulic fluid reservoir", it has a "2 step filtration" if you will. The HST filter is of a finer micron and rated for higher pressure and therefore more expensive than the regular hydraulic filter. Because of the nature of the tight tolerances on the HST transmissions, etc it is very important to use the correct filters and if you consider using anything other than OEM, make sure you do very good research and make sure you're using filters that are rated correctly for your tractor, or you could see expensive HST repairs.
