I was talking with a couple guys at work, and they were saying I might be able to turn each of my wheels around (so what is currently out is turned to face tractor) to widen the stance of my tractor. It looks to me like that would work, since the attachment is not centered in the rim. Thoughts?

BTW, as long as I have the wheels off, I'm planning to fill my tires with windshield washer fluid for additional weight.

Assuming you are talking about the rear wheels you do not want to turn them around. Just swap sides, that will keep the lugs pointing the right direction. Well now, I went back and looked at your purchasing post and see you have turf. May not make any difference with them, I'm not sure.

Winston is right, they're swappable. However, if you're talking about the turf tires, you don't need to switch sides, they're non-directional. Your ag tires may be on rims that are also adjustable.

You may be able to unbolt the square center and partly rotate it and bolt it back onto the wheel rim in a different spot, changing the offset. You can do that in combination with swapping sides, too, giving you a wide variety of track widths.

I asked about swapping the fronts. On the YM2000 (which has the same spindles as your YM1700) the manual says not to reverse the front wheels, so you shouldn't. On one of my other 2wd machines the rims are designed to be reversed, and the axle telescopes, as well, giving the ability to precisely set the track for row crop work. The YM1700/2000 is not designed to have the fronts reversed.

Since the front axle is on an unsprung pivot, making the front wider doesn't help as much as changing the rear wheels does for stability.

Make VERY sure the tires are not already filled when you're pulling them off. According to a chart I have those tires may hold more than 140lbs of water, added to the tire and wheel weight. Having personally removed a tire without knowing it had fill in it, you really, really don't want to be surprised by it. Be careful, and the same for putting the filled ones back on if you have someone else do it. I don't mean to scare you off, and filled tires really help with traction, just don't assume they're unfilled already and have them fall on you.

It's neat to see your boy on the machine in your picture. He's eager to try it out!

Thanks. I'll just flip the rear tires. It looks like each is about 2" off-center, so total should give me an extra 8" width in the back.

284 -- Yes, all of my kids wanted their picture taken on the new tractor... and so do did I. Say cheese! :D

284, he may not have adjustable rims.

But to the OP this just means the process is different from his discription. You need to do what winston said. Just swap the side the rears are on. Meaning left rear will become the right rear and vice versa. This keeps the tread bars facing the right direction. when they are swapped to the widest point.

Clemson, you're right, the rims may not be adjustable. He's got a set of turf tires on rims that look fixed, but he also has a set of ag tires. I didn't know which set he was swapping, so wanted to list his potential options, if he wanted to get maximum width but stay within the path of the mower. Good catch, thanks!

I cannot be sure what size rim width the OP is using, although my 1700 has
8 x 24 and when reversed sides only get 2 inch more width in foot tract of tires, so this means each wheel reversed only gives 1 inch differences,
as for the front tires: reversing them will give total of 4" wider,
I don't wont to give bad advice, But reversing the front rims on a 1700 with no FEL should'nt be to bad of a problem, Just be sure that the bearings and spindles are not already worn, reversing the wheels on already bad spindles could cause failure, I for one have got a heavy duty Front loader and continue to run the wheels flipped, I've put my tractor through some vigorous stress in spite of what I have been advised and so far so good,
but I'm sure I'm pushing my luck with using the FEL with flipped wheels,

That's good information, DeepnDirt. I'm glad to know that. Are your wheels one piece, or can you adjust the centers?

The wheels on my 1700 are 1 pc wheels, I have seen the kind that bolts in at each corner, I've been looking for replacement tires/wheels for my tractor and have run across every kind of tractor wheel imaginable, I didn't realize how many different configurations there are of wheels, I decided to simply replace the one in need, I just returned from buying a good used 8.3 x 24 tire and new tube for under 75.00 .....;) so I'm off to mount it and get back to work,

Depending on how the rear wheels are fabricated you may have as many as four width choices. The center hub [spider] may or may not be welded to the rim. The spider is bell shaped and if the spider is bolted to the rim it may be unbolted from the rim and flipped over, then it may also be bolted to the opposite face of the lug loops on the rim giving the widest stance. The front wheel hub may also be bell shaped and if exchanged left to right will also widen the stance.
