Tires Turf Tires and Wheels

I bought a YM2002D with rice tires (front = 6x14, rear = 8.3x24). I'm looking for front and rear rims and turf tires. I've heard that the front to rear diameter ratio must be correct or you'll experience problems with the front wheel assist.

Anyone have information on this topic and a source for rims and tires?

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the heads up on Hoye! I have worked with Aaron on some other issues, but haven't discussed this topic. You are right, Hoye has been really helpful. I took your advice and filled in some more info in my profile. I haven't had too much luck finding a good parts source this far north, but maybe there is someone out there that I haven't heard from. Shipping costs are always an issue when your dealing with big and bulky items like rims and tires.

I'd hoped that someone could reply to my question about front to back tire diameter ratio.

You are correct about tire diameter ratios. I like to keep them as close as possible but also keeping in mind that basic tread wear will throw the ratio off a little. Measure the ratio assuming full tread and then again at very little tread. I think that 1/2 the difference is a safe tolerance. You never want to use the 4wd on surfaces with good traction anyway (asphalt, concrete, etc) or you are asking for trouble. Even with factory tires.

As usual, you are a wealth of information. Could you comment on the availability of rims? I noticed, in another thread, a photo of a Yanmar with what appeared to be extra wide wheels and turf tires. Any idea where I could buy them?

I have had several sets made by them. Bob is a good guy and has been patient with me figuring out what I needed.
The big thing is that they all fit perfectly, and were He__ for stout.

What I am wondering is has anyone ever mounted duals on a Yanmar, I am looking for more stability while bushhogging on hilly ground.

If you just want stability and don't need the extra tration of dually just try wheel spacers.

A machine shop can turn out some metal spacers to bolt to your axle hub. Then bolt the wheels to those. Be careful and don't go too thick/wide. I imagine this would add a bit of stress to your tractor axles.
