Welcome to TBN Cubby!

Like you said... the turfs are great for mowing. But for FEL work and using a blade you are really going to want the ags (R1). I've heard of some people using turfs with chains and weights and I assume that would help quite a bit. But I think you would be happier with ag tires. They will be a little more "indention prone" on soft grass though.

My 7205 has turfs and they load instantly in mud. 4X4 has to be engaged to get it to move. I suspect you will be getting stuck on a regular basis if you have to work on anything approaching slick....Maybe chains? Personally I would advise against 2WD for loader work. The weight on the front will no doubt detract further from your already limited traction. Sounds like a recipe for frustration to me....But that's just me and I do have a phobia about being stuck!

thank you for the welcome /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. i will talk to the dealer tuesday about the AG (R1) tires. i would love to have a 4wd ,even know i don,t need it lol , dealer here quoted me a price for 5234D $14,600.00 + 15% sale tax. (cdn). and that,s just for the tractor thats the reason why i,m going with a 2wd.

Yeah... if I had money to throw around I wouldn't have a 16 hp tractor! I think you'll be happy with the 5252. It may not be quite as capable as a 4WD, but, it will do almost anything the 4WD will do... it just might take a little bit longer! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Let us know how it works out for you... and don't be a stranger!

Welcome aboard Cubby. I don't know how much snow you get up there but we get a substantial amount here in the NE US. I have turfs on my 7234 4WD Cub and they act pretty good in snow. Actually a lot like a snow tire in my opinion. I don't have chains and have plowed for 6+ years with little or no problem. Chains would help but I didn't want to go to the problem of taking them on and off, buying them, and tearing up my asphalt driveway. Possibly the R4s might be a better choice for you. From other posts it doesn't appear they tear up a lawn to much either. Like Outlander said the 2WD loader worker may be perilous at best unless you are on flat, dry terrain. When I looked for tractors I felt the 4WD was mandatory to give me the versatility and usefullness out of the tractor. I know they may be a little more money but I think in the CUT line the 4WD is much more popular especially if you ever have to sell it. Remember when you are learning, (by the way we are all learning with these, just at different rates), make sure you keep the loader as low as possible while moving with a load on. It gets even more important the heavier the load, the higher you lift it, and the uneveness of the terrain.

Welcome Cubby,
I bought a 5252 at an auction 6 weeks ago. So far I haven't used the three point at all. I have an old Ford 1220 4X4 with a loader and backhoe that gets all the three point work.

90% of the FEL work I've done with the Ford was in two wheel drive. The Ford has turf tires and even in four wheel it's pretty easy to get stuck.

In the ideal world, I'd have a set of AG tires on the Ford but they will tear up the turf.

Here are my observations on the 5252 so far.

Likes,
The most comfortable mower I've ever owned.
It mows really well, I removed the discharg shoot and it throws grass a mile!
I also have an older Cub 1872 Super Garden Tractor, this guys gets almost twice the mowing time on a tank of gas.
The turning radius is super sharp, 28 inches.
It has a switch to disengage the mow in reverse safety? feature.
It's my first tractor with a warranty, had it in once for some minor stuff, I have 15 hours on it.

Dislikes;
The three point doesn't have an adjustable stop.

This is a really nice tractor, it's not built as heavily as the 1220 but I'm looking forward to putting the three point through it's paces. So far I'm completely happy with the 5252.

Curt
