Does anyone have one? The wife wants one to store some of her things in. Went and looked at them and they seem pretty well made. They are built on site by subcontractors and the require payment in full up front which makes me nervous.

Let me post about something related that doesn't directly answer your question :)

I looked at Tuff Shed quite a bit a few years back. I liked their stuff, never bought one.

Last year, however, we needed a shed to house the dogs. Ended up buying a unit from a local Derksen Buildings(home | Derksen Portable Buildings) dealer. The building is exceptional (so far - it's only been there a year). We've insulated it and installed a window. Everything's great.

I suspect the dealer is the weak point in the link. Ours was great, except that he took a couple of months to cash the check. They offered either pay up front or "rent to own". The 10x12 building we bought was right around 2k, if I recall, and neared 3500 if we paid it over 4 or 5 years. We paid cash. Who knows how decent other dealers are.

The building was delivered a week or two later and set up. The driver pulled it right off the trailer with a mule, and pushed it exactly where we wanted it. He even leveled it. Cost of all that was included in the purchase price.

I think the Tuff Sheds are nice, but not nice enough to justify their prices. I was pretty apprehensive with the Derksen building, since it seems most of their dealers are just lots on the side of the highway, but the product is good, as are their prices. There are alternatives to Tuff Shed.

Tuff shed are nice, I bought my "kit shed" at lowes, (not tuff shed brand). Not happy with the build quality. For the 1500 bucks, I would have bought my own lumber out of full size 2x4 and built my own. I feel the same about tuff shed, they are nicer, but for the price, I'd still rather buy the lumber and build it myself....I don't know, maybe I'm a kook, but I enjoy building things, it is relaxing and fun...for you that may not be...or may be..?

Built by "contractors" on site- what a joke!

One dude showed up from a large town several hours away. He lacked proper tools to even run his own tools- no air compressor for his nail gun! Had to borrow the compressor and it went down hill from there. Run and run fast- in the opposite direction.

If you need a shed and want to have one built or delivered, find a local manufacturer. Their will be someone near by who will provide a quality product at a fair price.

Tuff Shed is a no go IMHO.

Lets see - I had to dig out the paperwork. I had a 12' x 16' "Ranch" Tuff shed constructed on my property on 9/8/2005. It has been used to store my motorcycle. First it was my Harley - now my BMW. After the two guys finished - I went to work on it. I wired the entire shed, insulated it and then sheeted the inside with 3/8 inch plywood. I've painted the inside an off white.

Soooo ...... the shed has stood Tuff and strong now for twelve years. No leaks, rips or tears and its maintained its integrity well enough to exclude any/all rodents.

My brand new 2017 BMW R1200GSA - Triple Black is currently in residence. I keep the shed heated all winter( 60 F) with a simple electric heater.

I have a feeling that whether you "like/dislike" Tuff Shed has a lot to do with the contractors who construct it. I have no difficulties or reservations about recommending Tuff Shed if you are in the market.

Thanks guys.

I have looked at their display models on their lot and they seem well made and stout. I just don't want the cheapest guy they could find throwing it together.

I emailed the salesman and told him I was not comfortable paying all up front due to some concerns about it being assembled poorly but I would be happy to pay half up front and pay the remainder once it was completed satisfactorily. Haven't heard back yet.

If TS doesn't agree to a contractual 10% retention, I'd continue to shop around.

The TS I bought in 2005 - I put 50% down and paid the rest upon completion.

We've had two of them built for us, one at our current place and one we're moving to.

Both are built well and have held up. Their workers are local and vary a bit. The first one they did the guys knew their stuff and went like clockwork.

The second one was a little less smooth but they did hold up their end. We'd probably go with them again if we had to choose.

I never heard of them, so I won't comment on them specifically. I have clients ask me to build them sheds all the time, and almost always, it's cheaper for them to buy a shed from one of those companies. Depending on how well I know the client, and what's involved, I'll go look at what they are wanting and give them my opinion on the quality of the build and the value of the price. There are several local companies that are not affiliated with any nationwide chain that do an excellent job. Heavy beams for the floor with 4/5 T&G plywood. Studs on 16 inch centers with double top plates and 2x6 rafters. Architectural or metal roofs, and Hardie Siding over OSB.

The junk ones usually have 2x's and thin plywood for the floors, studs every 2 feet. A single top plate, or no top plate at all. 2x4's for the rafters and three tab shingles. Then the door hardware is cheap and the siding is always either T1-11 or that dark brown paper stuff that dogs always seen to scratch through.

If you are unsure of how something should be framed, or if shortcuts are being taken, post pics and you'll get plenty of feedback on here.
