OK, now this honks me off. The chicks are coming so stopped by the TSC to pick up a bale of shavings. Noticed it seemed to be smaller than I remembered from last year. Price was the same though, so grabbed a couple and off we went. The bag is labeled as 2.5 cubic feet. Last year they were 3 cf. (had a partial in the barn and double checked. That's a 20% increase! Dang people! It's wood chips, not corn (don't get me started on that).

TSC now has regular and fine shavings. The fines are the smaller bag and do not expand out as much. Price is the same. We switched to the fines for our horse stalls as it is easier to pick manure out.

A lot of companies are doing this, keep the price the same but decrease the amount in box. I guess they think / hope the consumer won't notice.

Don't get me started on this, my favorite complaint. Some recent examples:
1. I bought new sticks for my hot glue gun. The new ones have a smaller diameter, making them harder to feed in to the gun with the trigger, and are just a few mm shorter.
2. Try to buy a 64 oz. container of orange juice; most are 59 ounces.
3. Clabber Girl baking powder is still in the same sized cannister but now has less powder. When I e-mailed to complain the marketing person used the nonsense term "right sizing" with a straight face. Glad I don't have her job.

Well, see, there is no inflation, just as the government claims. Prices are steady :(

The new govt formular to determine inflation doesnt take into consideration food or fuel so this sholdnt change the inflation rate.
See even the numbers people twist the data.

But if this is a common approach, it affects everything. Besides, we know the gov't figures are manipulated.

This type of reduced packaging has been going on for years now, smaller boxes, smaller cans, reduced sized portions, etc. To me it is most noticable in the grocery packaging, remember when ice cream was sold in half gallon cartons, now it is 56 ounces and in some instances it is now down to 48 ounces. To me the entire concept is plain stupid, any smart consumer knows what is going on. What makes it even stupider is that the companies had to waste a lot of money on packing materials, labels, machines, etc to make the products they sell in a smaller package. As the cost is usually the same per ounce with the reduced size products, why did they even make the change in the first place? STUPID. I would have happily paid the extra cost for the older standard sized packaging in the first place.

It's stores like Walmart who started this trend. They demand lower prices from their suppliers. When suppliers reach the bottom price, Walmart doesn't stop. Their only choice is to provide smaller packaging so Walmart can sell with the illusion of a lower price or so they can "roll back" the price. It's getting crazy when you start comparing older packaging. Even products like bleach or soap that started using smaller packages to sell the "super concentrate" products are now selling the regular strength products in the mini containers. Try to by a gallon of anything these days. Even if it looks like a gallon, few are truely a gallon.

Just like a bag of chips. Huge bag full of air and a hand full of chips for $4:mad:

How soon before gas stations start selling 7/8 gallons of gas then....

I buy bagged dry dog food.

i have bought the same brand for the 8 years my lab has lived. Once uppon a time they had a little circle thingie you could tear off and keep and turn in for something (we never figured out what) but we kept them. Turns out in 8 years, the bags have went from 42lbs to 34 lbs yet the price has stayed the same.

Last reduction i wrote and complained. They said they werent responsible for setting the price of the food. That was up to the individual retailer!

i said IM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PRICE, BUT THE SIZE OF THE BAG WHICH YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR!

i got no response. figures.

Is everyone just ignoring the fact that repowell had a logical and possible explanation?
But just for fun, anyone try to buy a gallon of bleach lately? I don’t think it’s possible anymore.

I did buy two half gallons of ice cream at Costco the other day. The half gallon cartons seem so large compared to all the other brands these days because they have shrunk them.

The one that I catch all the time is many people just assume a larger size is less per ounce. I've done the math many times to find the "economy" size is sometimes more per ounce than the smaller one!
