I am trying to remove blades from my kioti rfm The nuts are on too tight. I can not budge them. I tried penetrating oil. I am not sure which way the nut turns to loosen? Are they reverse threads? Anyone know? Any other suggestionts?
Thanks
Kurt

I don't belive they are reverse threads. I use an inpact gun to remove the blades on my mower. They will tighten up with use it seems. If you don't have an impact wrench try getting a long piece of heavy pipe from Lowes or Home Depot and sliding it over a socket breaker bar for leverage. Use a piece of 2X4 to wedge the blade to prevent it from turning.
Be sure to block the deck if you are working under it. I use jack stands.

Any idea what size nut holds the blades on?
Thanks

I don't know the size the at used on the Kioti mowers. It will be round 3/4" but it may be metric. In that case it will be around 24mm I would think. In the larger sizes you can usually get a socket in either that will work. They are very close when you get into the large sizes.

I think there could be a argument made if you own this rig you will be needing a good 1/2 dr air impact and some 6 point impact sockets. The strongest 1/2 drive i've used so far is Ingersoll-Rand's titanium/composite. It rivals a 3/4" drive in power, so although it's not the cheapest-it's almost like having two guns cause of the power.

I use a 1-1/16" socket on a matco 1/2" impact wrench. It is not reverse thread. The nuts appear to be self locking (nylon threads on the end).

BTW. The bolt for adjusting the belt tension on mine is 17mm. The problem is the locking nut on the inside (towards gearbox) Not enough room to use a cresent wrench and none of my wrench sets have 17mm open wench just 1 ratching 17mm that is just a bit to large to fit between to gear box and bolt. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

If you don't have an air compressor, you can use an electric impact wrench or as mentioned a long section of pipe. Good luck!

Kurt,
If you have not got your blades taken care of let me know. I go into Punta Gorda once or twice a week and can pick up your tractor on a trip back and take care of it for you. Or, I can drop off some blades that I have in stock if you need.

Well the blades are off thanks to tc-11 lubricant, 1 1/16 socket and a long pipe. Unfortunately one nut was damaged ad needs to be replaced. It is metric but I can't find one that big at any local hardware stores. I may have to order one on line. Anyone know the thread size?
Thanks again

Kurt,
I dropped off the nut for you finish mower today and put it on the seat of your tractor. Don't worry about paying me I was down the street dropping of a CK20 anyway. If you need any thing else let me know.

Sorry , I read a lot-just do not post. I have a LB1914 with a loader, post hole digger and Kioti 60" finish mower-since 2002- I was trying to confirm the correct procedure to remove the blades. I saw this old thread and it stated that the large
nut is NOT a reverse thread- I did find fit a 27MM socket.

Meaning RIGHT to tighten and LEFT to loosen. YES ?????

I have sprayed some PB on it for a two days and have access to a 1/2 impact. Should I heat the nut first?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

DannyO,

Yes left to loosen, 1/2 impact should do it without the need for heat, in fact I use my 19.2 volt impact to remove mine.

Ranchofla, just wanted to confirm as some foreign weed eaters are REVERSE thread. GOOD thing I read the instructions. I have a small guide on the mower-displaying the parts/etc but it never states how to remove. I am on going to order blades on ebay as the part number on the site matches the part number on the guide.

Have you ever changed the belts? Anything to watch out for?

Thanks Again

Be sure and watch the blades and replace the new one in the correct orientation, guy who had mine before me put them on upside down which makes the mower not cut well. I had to replace the seal on the drive unit the belts were just a slip on and off type of install nothing to it. I think deflection should be 1/4".

Thanks for the reminder about the blades--maybe the new ones will state "GRASS SIDE DOWN". I will ck the belt tip: re seal. Again, my mower is 11 yrs and have cut 1 acre once a month and on/off requests by others to mow their lots. I just changed the oil in the mower drive unit.

DannyO,

I have only had my used mower for a 1.5 yrs, though I do mow my 3 acres every two weeks, I have never replaced the belts. I have had to remove the occasional piece of wood jambing a blade and making the belt squeal. <G>

The the bottom nut/bolt towards the sharp edge to loosen and toward the back of the blade to tighten. That way the as the blade turns it will tighten the nut/bolt.

OK you guys are great. I am hoping to spend more time doing some routine maintenance. Always changed oil frequently, fuel filter, air, coolant and even did the Hydro Fluid and filter. Only have 380 hrs- need to find a shop around here to do more in depth maintenance. The dealer I bought from is gone.

I will be posting more soon.
