Hi all,
I'm in the market for a new dump trailer and looking for good quality in a 12 ft 9,999 lb or 14 ft 14,000 lb trailer.
There aren't many in my area to choose from so I've only actually looked in person at a Bri Mar.

Quality of the Bri Mar seemed good but I've read allot of web posts complaining of the powder coat not holding up well.

Spoke to a Ohio dealer today who has Load Trail and Hawke brands.

The Ohio dealer actually has units in stock while my local Bri Mar dealer does not.

Can anyone offer insight as to the quality of these three brands?

Thank you !

I got my uncle a 14' 14000# Bri Mar back in 2007 or so. It will dump anything we have put in it and it's pulled very well. I use it with my F350 but he has a F150 and before that a Expedition. My father has pulled it with his F150 Eco Boost and a buddy has pulled it with a 1500 Siera. The down sides. Heavy. Empty weight is 4200# leaving a legal load right at 5 tons. The powder coat peals off in sheets. For this reason I will no longer sell powder coated trailers. Paint is easier to fix and black is the best. A rattle can of black Rust a Resistant spay paint is all you need.

All in all a great trailer with a crummy paint job.

RE: paint.

Look at getting a Galvanized trailer. Lots of salt where I live and I havent seen a trailer paint or PC that holds up like a good galvanized. Cost a bit more, but if youre looking for a no-fuss, lifetime trailer it may be worth it for you.

I too have a Bri-Mar dump trailer. It is black and has had numerous black rattle cans of paint to keep it from rusting. Good sturdy trailer and it lifts almost anything you can put in it. I've had mine for 6 years. I keep it in a shed now so rusting is not so much of a problem. I second the poor paint job from the factory. I'm sure it will last mine useful life. You live in Pa and they are made near Chambersburg, Pa. I picked mine up at the factory. Easily done.

I called the Bri Mar factory. They will only sell to a dealer.
My dealer, who sold his last two Bri Mar dumps last week, told me today they will make a run this week and pick a bunch up.

He's maybe 15 minutes away so that works well.

Now I just need to pull the trigger ...

So you are going with a powder coated trailer after everyone of us have complained about it?

It's a good trailer but I will not sell another or recommend one. Get a painting unit and stay away from powder coat.

Check out Kaufman. They only sell direct and could be a drive for you. Many trailer brands are shipped out of Kaumans factory on 18 wheeler. They get decals when they land on dealers lot.

Check out B Wise trailers. The guy (Brian) is the original Bri (an) Mar owner, sold it and it went down hill, at least this is what I've been told. He is now back in bus. in Chambersburg PA. building these B Wise trlrs. I told a friend about them and he just orderded and recieved it (dump trailer) and is very pleased with it. They do some kind of "bath" of the steel before it is powder coated and it has a very good warranty on the finish & trlr. in general. I think my buddy said 2yrs on the finish & 5 on the trlr. They also only sell through dealers only.

I have a Tow Master brand dump. I have had to touch up the paint on mine in several places. I bought it used and saved a ton of $$. Great trailer heavy built

I've got a 6x12 CAM Superline. Overall, happy with it. My only recommendation would be to go with dual rams. When picking up crushed stone I have to make sure that it's not loaded too much toward the front of the trailer. I've had times where I had to "assist" it with skid steer bucket to have it dump. But then again I'm sure it's always a good idea to not load it front heavy anyway. Better to keep the weight over the axles whenever possible and not have too much tongue weight.
