Truss Boom Build

   / Truss Boom Build #21
When we built our house, we built a boom on a truck (12' flatbed). The main beam was a steel tube 6"x6" x 22' long. It was connected on flatbed perhaps 4' front back of bed while the pipes connected to the back corners of the bed and went up to end of 6"x6". We also had cables (come alongs) going from top end of boom to front of flatbed at the corners. It was very stable and could lift a good load without any problems. Of course we hung a giant pulley from the end and used a 10,000lb electric boat winch bolted to the flatbed to lift and lower the panels. Our panels are structured foam (11" of Styrofoam with osb factory glued to both sides. Each panel was 48" wide, 19'6" log and 111/2" thick. We drilled two holes in each panel and put large eyebolts thru them to secure the lifting strap. The panels weighed 450-500lbs each.
