TN75DA
Hi

This is a related question to the earlier thread on the Woods BH90x ... if I fit out the TN75DA with that hoe, what do folks recommend for a trailer truck combo to tow the machine?

I'm thinking something like an older 4X4 F350 Diesel with a used 14,000# flatbed ... typical tow distance might be 5 - 50 miles, maybe once every two weeks ...

Hook-up? Ball / Pintle / Gooseneck ? I have no idea or experience.

Thanks

John

I've pulled a fully loaded cab TN75 with loader on my Bri-Mar 12,000 at 18 ft trailer, pintle hitch, and bumper pull. I"ve hauled this short distances, say 20 miles to the dealer. Ideally, it would be a gooseneck, 24 ft or longer... My trailer is way too short for this size machine and makes the weight (tongue) twice what it should be. I have Dodge, Cummins diesel one ton pick ups. No problem with the Dodge or my Bri-Mar other than being way to short in length.

If you have any tight turns or need to back into places then you want a gooseneck.

A 3/4 ton truck set up for the weight would do the job with a 24' long gooseneck trailer. Just make sure you set the buckets down and chain them seperate. This way the weight is off the tractor.

I have pulled my TN65 with loader on a 16' utility trailer behind a F-150 with heavy duty suspension package. It was not an ideal setup but it worked for short hauls. When I hook that same tractor and trailer behind the F-250 you do not even notice it (well, unless you don't have the tractor positioned properly). I plan on buying a 30' gooseneck for hauling hay and equipment in the future and it will be heavy enough that if I upgrade to a 1 ton dually I won't have to upgrade trailers. I have no plans to upgrade trucks anytime soon but I don't want to handcuff myself in the future like I did when I bought the 16' utility trailer.

Thanks Robert & PBin

To haul a TN75DA with loader and backhoe, sounds like a long gooseneck is the way to go ...

Further questions: Does anyone know (offhand) the approx weight of a Woods BH90x or Bradco 511 or 611 backhoe attachment? Just thinking of GVWt issues ...

Then there is the question of the trailer configuration; I can think of three:

1. Flatbed over everything, possibly with the partial slant at the back ... the decks seem to be 34-36" high ...

2. Flatbed between the rear wheels ... gets the deck down to 22-24", but it's narrower useful area and wider altogether on the road ...

3. Dump trailer, so when you get to the site you have a place to load stuff (I presume the back of the F250 is temporarily toasted for usefulness of loading dirt/gravel/woodchips etc. by the fifth wheel)... decks appear 37-38" high ... can you strap a TN75 into a dump trailer? Is the bed good for it? Are there tiedowns?

For stability and ease of getting the tractor/loader backhoe combo up the ramp, it looks like the lowrider flatbed with gooseneck is the best approach ... anybody got any experience or knowledge about any of these combos?

Thanks

John

get a goosenck flatbed over the wheels and/or you can get a goose neck flat bed with the rear in beavertail configuration,. You do not want a low bed goose neck because there are only 82 inches between the wheel well and a TN75 tires in the rear are 82 outer edge to outer edge at a minimum,... THey can go wider,, Point being, getting the tractor between wheel wells isn't very easy, especially if this has to be moved for balance or to add more equipment

Thanks Larry

I'm getting there; I wasn't sure I could get there from here, but after a half day I'm halfway to somewhere! And you've got half of nothing done ... we oughta share a beer!

I have a TN75DA (cab) and I haul it everywhere as part of my business.

It's just under 7' wide. It fits fine on my between the tires bumper pull trailer. I only pull it on that when I don't have anything on the tractor but maybe the loader but it does fit. Takes up most of the 20 foot trailer, but it does fit.

The TN75 is bleeping heavy.

I have no idea what a backhoe weighs, but it has to be over a 1000lbs. (probably closer to 2000lbs). Heck an 8' rotary cutter weighs just over 2000lbs. Better check on that backhoe.

the tractor is 6000lbs, figure a front loader is another 1000, a bucket is about 500, the backhoe is ???? and if you have wheel weights or loaded tires, add that in.

I have a 14,000lb 25' gooseneck tilt (so it's all usable and flat above the wheels). And with the tractor equipped particular ways it can be seriously overweight at times.

If i were to do it over again, i'd buy a dually trailer (10,000lb dual axles, 20,000 limit).
BUT
I haul every day, so for just occasional runs it would be fine to put it on a 14,000 lb trailer. put it on a gooseneck deckover (of whatever type). My 3/4 ton chevy duramax hauls it fine. (a 1 ton would be better, but the 3/4 does fine)

My TN75D with 84" heavy duty bucket & Woods 1050 backhoe is just a couple of pounds under 10,000. It is also bleeping long... It pushes LarryRB's beautiful BriMar trailer to the limits. If I had my rear wheels set wider than default with the loaded 16.9 x 30 R1's it would not fit.

Thanks Andy/Cowboy!

It appears to be a bit of a see-saw between correct sizing of the trailer and truck ...

How would you configure a truck for your 20,000# dually gooseneck?

FX50 or equiv.? 1-Ton? Higher?

My load figures to be the TN75DA cab, with NH loader and one of these backhoes on the 3pt ...

Woods BH90-x / Woods 1050 / Bradco 511 / Bradco 611

That decision now appears to be a price thing, although I like the argument for the 1050 over the 90-x ...

I haven't thought of wheel or front/rear weights ... some disc work and bush-hogging hilly meadow, but I won't be using it for muddy fields ... main thing will be foundation and trench work in sand/gravel/light clay, with some accompaniment of portable saw-mill functions and the usual winter snowblowing off the 3pt ...

Frankly, I wouldn't mind getting away with the 14,000# GN trailer, but the broad concensus seems to be not to underestimate the loads you'll want to haul  ...

Happy Sappy Spring thoughts!

John

P.S. If there were a smiling wallet god, I'd be able to roll the TN into a big dumper, and haul the sawmill on a pintle ... Zap!!
