It's that time to buy a new truck toolbox for my truck. My current one is an el cheapo tractor supply whose locks are stuck and doesn't open anymore. So I need a recommendation on the next toolbox, what brand, qualities do you all recommend? P.S. My current one opens to the sides and leaves space between it and the bed at the bottom so I can slide in 4x8s.

I like the Weathergards myself. Mine is in it's second truck and still going strong!

I bought my last one at John Deere. It seems to be built very well and was priced right. I am very pleased with it.

It depends on whether you want steel or aluminum, two lids or one single.

Me I prefere single lid for the access abilities and aluminum since my last box is 13yrs old and still going strong even though I don't own it anymore (sold to a friend with truck attached to it)
I belive it is a Continental brand...the one with a marlin on the plate.

I bought my Aluminum one online. It is sort of V shaped. I was going to put it on the tongue of my trailer for chainsaws and all of the other tools of the trade. I ended up putting it in the back of my truck. It is narrow enough to put long things beside it in the truck. Then I bolted it to the bed. It is great for locking up chainsaws and stuff. I think the brand was Altec or something. Do a Google search online for truck tool boxes. It has on lid that opens up. The only down side by bolting it in the middle of the bed at the back I have to climb into bed to get things out. Keep in mind I have a "headache rack" in there to duck under. If I have to put in more effort to go get things out then I am hoping some sort of thief is too lazy to climb up in the back or doesn't want to take the extra time. It does have a nice weather proof lock and handle.

I bought a UWS for my Super Duty about 3 months ago, it has proved to be good one so far. I got the aluminum deep model, with the single lid. I wanted the single lid so it would be easier to throw in a chainsaw and small gas can or something similar on top of what I keep in there all the time without having to move stuff around. I have a rubber mat in the bed of the truck and the clearance to the bottom of my box is right at 4 1/4" - enough to get a few 4x4's or several sheets of plywood under it. The built-in tool trays and screwdriver holders on each side are very handy, as well as the sliding plastic tray. I drilled a hole in the sliding tray and use a small elastic bungee to keep it to the driver's side, I slip the bungee over a couple screwdriver handles to hold it there. I work out of my truck so the box gets used almost every day, all mechanisms seem OK so far.
