I have decided that I am going to start looking for a used plow for my truck, and use the tractor for cleanup.

I currently own a 2002 ram 2500. I haven稚 had any luck finding a used outfit that will fit my truck, so I am hoping instead to find a plow and purchase a mounting frame that will work. Assuming whatever plow I find, and assuming the manufacturer has a frame/sub frame that will fit my truck, is this a workable scenario? Or is the mounting hardware on the plow itself also unique to the truck? I have zero experience with truck plows.

Thanks for your help.

Plows are typically set up with one system and the vehicle-specific mount adapts from your truck to the plow.

As long as there are dealer(s) for whatever brand you find in the used market, a mount for your truck should be available.

You might want to try searching or posting in the Dodge section here:

Agree with Seymour.
Go to the dealer of the plow and ask about the hardware to fit your truck.
Or search on Craigslist or eBay and one will eventually show up for your truck.

I fully intend on visiting my local dealer soon to see what my options are for a sub frame.

Just want to educate myself a little first.;)

Just be aware a sub frame for most plows are $600 and up alone. I have been down this road with my uncles Meyer plow and his F-250.

i live in a fairly rural area, and i've run across several businesses that specifically deal in used / refurbished plows and parts. these businesses are always buying up used plows from people that are trading/selling/scrapping their vehicles. around here the most common plow is still fisher, so that is the general brand in the used / refurbished market, and they generally have all sorts of different models and sizes for sale. they usually have all sorts of different vehicle brand mounts available too, since they usually buy used equipment and have to refit and part out some of them. they often have more mounts that complete plows, as the plows usually take the most of the beating.

if you can't find a dealer for used, try looking at it backwards. check all the local swap and sell publications for people that are always offering to buy used plows. they are the ones that are selling the used gear. check craigslist for recurring ads like that too.

they also make plows that attach to tractors, Guess it all depends on how much you have to plow.....and if your traveling to other jobs with it.

Wish there were something like that around here. Finding the plow shouldn't be a big deal.

I only have a sub compact and over a 1/4 mile of hilly dirt lane to maintain. Although my tractor does a surprisingly good job it often just takes too long.
I can't live without my bucket during the winter month痴, and just don't want to deal with swapping back and forth. I considered the BXpanded option, but for around 1K I think I can spend my money better. Plus it seems to me it will be prone to damage. I would be banging on it pretty hard.

I did forget to mention in the OP a primary reason I知 going with a truck plow is not only to speed up the process, but to give me another solid option for snow removal in case the tractor goes down. They only break when you really need them.

Thanks for the replies so far.:)

Plowing will take it's toll on a truck. Of course how you drive plays a part but still. I would talk to a couple of dealers and ask questions like which brand sub frames cost more than others and which ones they stock parts for. You can plan on getting several years of trouble free operation out of new plow but even a used one in great shape could fail you when you need it most, nice to have parts not far away.

Then I would just start looking for any one of the brands that's in good shape.

The nice thing about rear mounted snow blowers is the snows gone the first time every time and there are no snow banks.

I would ask Ken Sweet who is forum sponsor in good standing how much an Allied Farm King snow caster would cost you delivered to your door before I bought a plow frame that will eventually break (been there done that with Dodge Power Wagons/snow fighters and Myers plows.
