So, perhaps I'm missing something, but I seem to be having a hard time getting my PTO to switch between mid, rear, and mid/rear split. I get it into one (like Rear when I'm using just my bush hog), and I can't get it to shift out, the lever just sticks. I have had this happen in the past, and an incantation of shifting the seat, shifting gears, and basically flipping every lever on there has gotten it to shift, but this time, it appears that there is no movement to be had. Is there some sort of secret to these, or could I soon be calling my dealer about a warranty repair?

There is no trick, it should move quite easily with the engine running or not. I also have a John Deere 2305 and it is easy to change; sounds like time to call the dealer to me.

Not so true. I found that the sometimes the lever wont move. I usually engage the pto a little to spin the shaft and then the selector moves freely. I found this out when I had to replace the rear pto seal on my BX24. talked to the dealer he says that what i was doing was fine, something to do with the hydro tranny and pto......

Well, all I have to go by is the way my BX2660 works and I don't have to do any of that or hold my tongue a certain way, I just move it. I think there "may" be a difference in the BX24 PTO engagement than the BX2660, I know it is a lot different than my BX2200; just guessing though.

I test drove a 60 series BX, tried the pto and it had the same issues. I dont think much changed in the hydro tranny other than the reverse stop

Same issue on my BX2350. Sometimes it happens, other times not. I just engage the PTO for a split second so that I know the gears aren't holding any pressure, and I switch the mode. Of course, bad timing on my part has occasionally made that awful grinding noise...

Let us know how you make out.

Guess mine was some sort of top secret experimental model that somehow managed to slip by; hope no one finds out as they might want it back; maybe my JD 2305 too.

Try lubing the shaft where it goes into the case.

I'm sure there have been plenty of changes in the BX HST design over the years, but the PTO selector on my '03 sometimes sticks coming out of gear and doesn't always just drop into gear either. It has always been this way since new. The manual states to momentarily engage the PTO and then try shifting. This realigns the gears (randomly) allowing them to unload or mesh more easily. Just don't force anything. Sounds normal to me.

The difference in PTO engagement and selection between my new 03 and new 09 is daylight and dark; don't know what they changed, but it is a vast improvement.
