It looks good in the shop and the 5030 fits too. Another picture...

Looks nice in front of my Bridgeport vertical miller.

This is the last one. I know you are all getting bored, right??

The tennis ball is the guard on the vertical feedwheel of my surface grinder. I have a habit of running into it while navigating around the 5030. Seems as though I have a continuous bruise on my leg from the handle. It dosen't move as the machine weighs about 3500 pounds.

There happens to be a young secretary at our Monroe, "Michigan facility that is dying for a ride on the Triumph. I'd say she is all of 24. (my son is 28). She has told me on numerous ocassions that I just have to take her for a ride in no uncertain terms. She also said that I have to go fast enough that she has to hang on real tight. "

Hmmm, if your son is not married perhaps he should borrow the bike /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. Yeah, you might should stay away from there /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I took the rear seat off my bike and installed a seat cowl for a racey look, no room for any hitch hikers.

Oh, very nice motorcycle, be careful with it and mostly you. J

I really like the 60's styling with the modern amenities like digital inductive ignition, Denso electrics, DOHC motor and no,leak, wet sump lubrication.

The "peashooter" mufflers look right on, but are too quiet. There is a web site store, www.newbonneville.com that sells accessories including a complete exhaust system that sounds like the 60's model.

The bike even has a sealed AGM style battery right from the factory.

No more 50 weight motor oil either. Triumph recommends 20-50 full synthetic. The recommended oil is Mobil or Amsoil. The crankcase holds a full gallon and has a spin on filter in the belly. No more gauze and wire mesh filters in the remote oil tank.

The thing that amazes me is the chain. The last chain driven bike I had was a Yamaha dirt bike and you had to keep the chain oiled. The Triumph has an X ring chain with the lubricant contained by the rings inside the rollers. You just apply a "chain wax" frequently and let it dry. No slung oil on your pant leg and the bike itself.......Such advancements!!!!

I imagine when Bird looks at the pictures, he might just decide to renew his motorcycle endorsement for old time sake!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Very nice looking machine, gotta be fun to ride, but I doubt that I'll be riding two wheels anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not to start an oil war but I would use the Mobil 1 15W-50 auto oil. If you use their bike specific oil use the MX4T--not the V-twin oil. I have used the 15W-50 in several bikes with good results and it is half the price of the MX4T or other synthetic bike oils and in a recent oil test it did very well against other oils including other bikes oils and Amsoil.
Don't baby that engine to much during the break-in--don't run it hard either. Isn't it kinda icey up there for motorbike riding?
Yeah, I bet Mr. Bird was a REAL sport : /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif . J

That's what triumph recommends, Mobil MX4T over Amsoil as second choice. Whichever oil I use, it's got to meet JASO standards whatever that is.

I'll have to find out where it's sold. Do you have any ideas? I'll ask our fuel jobber also.

Triumph is very particular about filters, at least the dealer told me that. I see that Amsoil sells a filter, but I bought a couple of Triumph filters at the shop on Saturday.

I'll most certainly go with what Triumph recommends. I am a newbie to this high tech motorcycle stuff.

I don't want to get into the oil controversy either but a good friend who has a 97 powerstroker like mine changed his oil this weekend and used the new Rotella synthetic. He called me today and told me that his diesel started easier this morning (cold) and seems to run smoother. I asked him to give me a mpg., update.

Daryl, I often see the Mobil 1 MX4T etc at Autozone. They usually have a seperate area for it. Frankly, I would, as I said, use the Mobil 1 15W-50 performace auto oil. It has moly in it, a small amount but it will not cause the clutch to slip. The MX4T does not have moly. Some bike oils have moly as well including some Honda oils. Yeah, I would be careful on the filter, probably use the Triumph part until you can do some research. Yeah, I figure Triumph recommends Mobil 1 MX4T, that is a 10W-40 I think. It is an excellent product but I have not found it on sale or rebate as is often the case with the 15W-50 Mobil 1. J

Let me really go out on a limb here. I would use a base motorcycle oil such as Suzuki or Honda standard 10W-40 oil for the first 1500 miles. I would change the oil and filter at 100 miles and again at 500. At 1000 miles I would change just the oil. At 1500 miles I would install another filter and switch to the Mobil 1. Thereafter, I would change oil/filter every 3,000 miles. If you live in an area with little dust and dirt and your air filter is a quality unit and kept clean, maybe 5000 miles. J

The triumph has a wet, multi-plate clutch, just like days of old. They also adamantly state in the owners manual and the shop manual not to use any aftermarket additives in the oil, probably because of the clutch.

On the air filter side, Uni makes an oiled foam filter for the T-100 which I will probably switch to when it's time to change out. We do live on a dirt road and it's dusty here in the summer months.

Daryl, I am not telling you to use extra "additives" in the oil. Mobil 1, like all oils have additives in the oil. Many bike oils have moly for example--a high pressure lubricant additive. Both Honda and several oil makers uses small amounts of moly in their products both for cars and bikes. The Mobil 1 product line has moly in their performance 15W-50 oil but not in their bike oils.
Daryl, adamant or not, every bike I have owned but with a few exceptions (Ducati) has had a wet clutch. I have been using Mobil 1 auto oil in them since 1979 I think. I have had several "fast" bikes and a number of UJM's (Universal Japanese Motorcycles) and a few Europeon makes. NONE of them have ever had a slipping clutch due to Mobil 1 auto oil. My current ride, a Suzuki SV650S, a real fun little bike, I wheelie and stoppie and run pretty hard. It runs Mobil 1 15W-50 despite the admonition from Suzuki to use only bike oils and bla bla bla. It has a V-twin engine with an 11,000 RPM redline and a wet clutch. It is not a super fast bike but trust me, it is plenty fast to get me in trouble. I used to race bikes, even for an "older" guy, when it is time to raise a little "hades" on two wheels I am fully capable, the point is, I ride hard and my bikes need a good oil--that oil is Mobil 1 15W-50 auto oil. The MX4T is great--it ought to be at more than twice the price.
Next time I do a burn out in the garage I will have to get my wife to snap a pic /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Love holding the bike back with the engine bouncing off the limiter and smoke rolling off the tire, yeah, I think I need the moly that Mobil PUTS in some of their oils /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.
Hey, go to the Ducati web site and then click on the Sport Classics. You see the yellow one---when those are available I am buying one /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, it looks like the Ducatis I have owned in the past--they have a noisy dry clutch by the way. Check them out--way kooler than my current spiffy little ride. J

In my younger days, I got acquainted with the late Tom Lester of Lester Engineering. Tom had a penchant for old bikes, especially the GP style.

I was at his shop/motorcycle museum in Twinsburg, Ohio one day many years back. He had an MV Agusta and he let me take it for a ride. I still remember the sound. Better than ***.

The "other" Triumph dealer here in Michigan is also a Duck dealer. I will check out the website although I do have trouble with desmodronic.

Hi Tres,

Unfortunately Synthetic oil is not for every bike or clutch...
My 1995 yamaha V-max is effected by synthetic oils and it effects my clutch directly. The clutch slips, and not because the plates are bad so I reverted back to regular oil. Its well known with Vmax's and synthetic oils on the clutches. Rare overall for bikes but it happens...My 996 Ducati does very well with its Agip over priced synthetic oil, and dry clutch plates ( I love that sound actually)

996, have you seen the new Sport Classics on the Ducati website? I like them a whole bunch. Yes, I like the dry clutch on Dukes.
The V-max is definitly a niche bike and just a bit bizzare if you ask me /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. I have been using synthetic oil for so long in every thing I would feel like I was abusing it to use anything else. I suppose if a V-Max clutch slips with Mobil 1 then I would have to have an after market clutch kit or something /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Apparently the stock clutch is very marginal if it slips that easily. J

Well, it was a warm day so I took the bike out for a spin to charge the battery.
Well, time to get down to the shop and cut some metal for my aeroplane. Y'all have a nice evening. J
