The folks in the Kubota forum don't seem too interested in mini-excavators so I thought I'd share my excitement over here. I bought a U-17 last fall for working around my property and building trails in nearby conservation lands. I bought it with a hydraulic thumb, which delayed delivery by almost a month as they received the wrong model and then had to install and plumb it. It has already been very handy for handling boulders and firewood and pulling out saplings. While waiting for spring to arrive I figured I would get this rig ready.
First task was to add a tool rack, and after scouring the web for ideas I settled on a Mossberg gun rack, apparently made for jeeps. These went on the front of the ROPS down by the floor area. They will be perfect for holding a shorty rock bar and a Pulaski or root ax.
Today's custom mod was to add rearview mirrors. I found some motorcycle mirrors on eBay for $11 for a pair. I am blown away by the price as these are really nicely crafted aluminum without a piece of plastic on them. They are made to go in the ends of a moto handlebar but i pulled off the inserts and they fit on the 7/8" horizontal bar of the ROPs perfectly. Do you need rearview mirrors on an excavator? Maybe not but I'd like to know if someone silently walks up behind me so i don't swing into them. I like them.
Next on the list are a chainsaw holder and a tool box. Both will probably go on the back of the ROPS behind the seat.
