Does anyone know if Traveller Universal Tractor/Hydraulic Fluid is compatible with AGCO Permatran 821XL? My GC 1720TLB is a little low and the dealer isn't open until Tuesday since it is a holiday weekend. Saw this at Tractor Supply, but no one there could answer my question. Thanks in advance!

You will need to look at the specs to see if it meets AGCO permatran or not. I used Traveller universal fluid for a 200 hour service change out one time, after a few hours, I when to kubota and paid 3x more for UDT due to the whine. Never used it again for a complete change out but have used it to top off if I am out of other fluids.

Should be fine, it is made by main supplier and branded as "Traveler" ... If it is compatible with J20c, hy-gard, hy-tran, etc... Then it works for Permatran as well

All the specs it meets are on the side. The list is lengthy. I would think it meets about all current specs.

I'm not a fan of mixing brands. I use Traveler UTF in my Kioti and have no problems whatsoever.

If it's just "a little low", you probably don't even need to worry.

But, adding "a little" to 4+ gallons of Permatran isn't going to change the world. It's all hydraulic fluid. The "better" fluid, usually has higher quality additive packages.

A lot depends on your concept of "a little".

Some people do run the travelers fluid.

Thanks for the replies. I went to Tractor Supply and looked at the specs on the back of the jug. It listed Massey Ferguson Permatran III. The more I think about it the more I get an uneasy feeling about it. Maybe it is because of being an aircraft mechanic in the USAF to long. I know I never liked the term suitable sub in the military, and that is what it sounds like. Thanks again!

It's hydraulic oil. I think you are over thinking it. Especially if it only needs a little to top off.

Why does it give you an uneasy feeling? Permatran 3 is the proper rating. Rotella makes one that is spec'd for multiple brands... Warren oil does, Mobil 424, etc. Remember, most hydraulic components are not manufacturer specific, they are sourced from component suppliers. AGCO doesn't make your pump, they buy it. More accurately, Iseki buys and installs it. Some companies install Bosch fuel systems, some install Delphi.

Point is, practically all of the modern component parts are industry based, not Mfg based. Therefore, oil Mfgs would design their products to meet industry needs. Then... Individual companies would buy the oil and label it as their own, claiming how amazing it is and how it is specifically formulated for their product... All while up-charging you for their "presto-chango" label switch.

TSO, it gives me an uneasy feeling because like KiotiKowboy stated, I really don't like mixing fluids. I was going to help a neighbor out by cutting his lawn, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided it could wait until Tuesday evening when I get off of work. Besides, I got a surprise visit from my daughter and son in-law. So, if I even think about getting the tractor out I will be in the dog house. LOL Thanks again for the information. It is good to know if I have to in a pinch, I could use Travellers.
