Is there an alternative to the Cub Cadet Transmission Oil (Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus) that is recommended by Cub Cadet?
Is so what brand, type and location can this be found.
Model # LT2042

The Cub people in Australia recommended and I quote,
"The oil specified by the manufacturer of the Hydrostatic transmission is an engine oil with a minimum rating of 55 SUS at 210 degrees F and an API classification SG/CD
A 20/50W engine oil with an API classification SG/CD has been selected for initial use and is recommended for normal operating temperatures"

Thats for Australia however hope it helps

Get the specification number that the manufacturer assigned to the Cub Cadet oil from your operator manual. Then go oil shopping at Tractor Supply, NAPA, etc and check the label on the container to see if that dealer's oil meets or exceeds the Cub Cadet specification.

It costs $12 per qt at the mower dealer. Just trying to see what is out there.

Hydro Gear appear to be the manufacturer of the hydros in Cubs and their website repeats the info I posted previously , but in addition it mentions the use of 15w/50 synthetic oil is acceptable i.e. Mobil 1 and this will also extend the change times

I am not purposely bringing back an old thread from the dead, but this is a top search result so I have to. If your Cub Cadet calls for "Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus" in the transmission, it is OK to use Rotella 5w-40 or 15w-40. However, you cannot use a motor oil filter since it will not let you purge the air out of the system. I am assuming this is because the motor oil filters usually have an anti-drainback valve. So you have to use the Cub Cadet Hydraulic Filter or equivalent instead. I have a Cub Cadet GT2542. For the hydraulic filter, I can use the Cub Cadet 923-3014, or the Wix 51410, or the NAPA Gold 1410.

Me personally I would only use what is recommended by Hydro-gear or Cub as per my previous posts
