The saga of my Select O Speed 4000 continues...
Long story short, I got an 8 speed and rear axle out of a 3910. After a complete tear down, I am very happy with it (very little wear). Why would I tear it down? The bell housing is broken. We saw it was broken, so the salvage yard offered me an extra transmission to use for the case. Well, that one is broken too (didn't notice until we got it home). The salvage yard has offered to give me another transmission to use for the case. Does anyone have experience with the interchangeability of these cases? Will only an 8 speed transmission work? On the parts diagram, the 6 speed and manual reverse transmission cases look identical, but they appear to have different part numbers. They have a lot of yellow Ford stuff laying around at this salvage yard, so that's why I'm asking. What they definitely don't have at the yard is any more 4000 series tractors.
