I just want to give all 2305 users a heads up. Since the machine does not have a lot of ground clearance and it is tempting to use it as a dozer to clear heavy brush w/ the loader, be careful. The cooling fan for the hydrostatic transmission is located between the foot rest (notice hump) and can easily be destroyed with brush. This happened to me w/ less than 30 hours on the machine:( . Replacing this part is not easy, since it is not easily accessible. Luckily, I know a guy who works on skids steers and he helped me out. The drive shaft had to be taken apart and the two bushings for the mmm had to be removed. This is the only way to access this cooling fan. Keep this in mind, b/c I heard that it is not uncommon for this to happen.

johnny,

Sorry to hear you are one of the unfortunate to experience this. The 2210/2305 ground clearance is both a blessing and a curse. I have nearly 250 hrs. on my 2210 without this problem, but I did shear a rear valve stem while brush hogging (my rear tires are loaded). So, while this isn't something that is imminent, it is something owners of these tractors should be aware of.

Deja Vu all over again from when the 2210 was new. I would have thought JD would have given the fan more protection on this model:confused:

Last fall I was using my RFM and the front tire ran over a small stick that the mower would have laughed at...had it got the chance. Unfortunately the stick was curved and went right up into the fan. I had previously ran over much worse brush without incident. The fan was a little chewed up but not bad. When I took the tractor in for service my dealer noticed the damage and replaced it under warranty. He says that some dealers are replacing them under warranty to send Deere a message. I'm a little more careful about sticks this year. But it is a PITA.

The Kubota BX's have this issue as well due to their low stance. Some have responded to it by armoring the bottom of the tractor with a plate that protects the fan and filters. There are a couple different ones that don't interfere with a belly mower and can just stay on all the time. Could something be designed for the 2350/2210 as well?

Can't feature why JD continues to do this. The 4000 series, and now the 2320/2520, have the hydraulic cooler in front of the radiator. The radiator fan draws air over it. The hydraulic filter is also totally enclosed. Believe it's also down there exposed on the 2210 and probably the 2305. Why don't they make them like on the 4000 series?

Sticks and stuff have a way of curving up into things. I had a stick pull the oil dipstick out of my Gravely tractor engine. Had a mess of oil spray going on for a while until I figured out what happened. Learned to always turn the dip stick so that the ring was well inside against the engine block after that. Still, it's there and only 6 or 8 inches from the ground.

A couple times, I've had the steel protector over the mid PTO be knocked loose by sticks and trash on my 4010. It's down there and looks very much like the pics I've seen of the hydraulic filter covers on the 2210.

I have been very careful thanks to all the posts about this problem. So far not a problem for me. I'm careful to get off and move the sticks. This is something I would not have done except for knowing there is a problem.
