Transaxle fluid milky

Hello,
I have a 2wd 96 JD 410 Backhoe that I drove out to my driveway tonight and used the backhoe to dig out a few chunks of concrete. When I went in the street to turn it around and backfill it would not turn, the front wheels tried to skip as the back ones were like positraction. i did a slow twenty point turn to get back on the dirt and when I found the transaxle and reverser dip sticks one was over filled and the other was milky but, ok on the level?

What happened...?

Time to change the oil out as it has it's fill of water. It ofen takes two changes when it's that bad so the first time you can use a cheap fluid so you don't waste your money.

I agree that the oil needs to be changed and per your description has a high moisture content.. I would look for the water entry point before I changed the oil and get it closed off or you will be doing this again soon.. My ole case VAC was missing the shift boot and the gap between the shifter and the housing let rain water flow directly into the oil, easy fix but a pain in the arse to change the oil.

After completely draining the oil, if the new oil gets milky and your absolutely sure that you do not have water flow path, you can run the oil for a few hours and the higher temperature may dry the oil out, depends on the oil additives and the amount of ventleation the oil gets.

Well, letting it sit overnight and pulling a half quart of oil from the overfilled one(reverser?) to the ok/milky(transaxle) one gave the hydrolics traction...works fine now. It has been 100 degrees and dry , so I don't think water is in it.
Must have cavitated the pump. I also remember only pulling my outriggers halfway up when turning it around...maybe it was starving the transaxle?

I'll keep a close eye on the fluid and see if it changes again.
