Trailering a Backhoe?

Question, How are you guys trailering you tlb's? Are you binding down the hoe? Or are you transporting it with the hoe in the up postion? Pics would help. My Bh has a lock to prevent it from moving side to side or down. I ask this question since I'm looking for a trailer to haul the tlb and the position of the hoe will affect the trailer length. I also can't decide if I should go GN or bumper pull. I have a 3/4 ton diesel and know the GN will ride better but it means I'll need another hitch and wiring. Plus I really didn't want to go over 20' on the length. And pics of your towing setups would really be a plus.

The hoe must be down on the deck and bindered down to the deck. You can overhang the azz end of the trailer if you use a flag. I think 3' is the limit, varies from state to state.

5th wheel is much more manueverable, but takes away lots of bed space for tools, etc. Also can't do a lumber rack or tool boxes unless the boxes are really low.

depending on what TLB you buy, if it's small enough, you might be able to bumper pull it.

I already have the TLB. I just need to get the long trailer. If you need to bind the hoe I may as well go with the GN. I just wasn't thrilled about adding the GN hitch to the truck.

Builder, you understand what I mean when I say hoe I mean the actual hoe. (Dipper and Mast) not the overall machine. It looks in your pic like the backhoe mast is up. (kind of hard to tell from the pic though. I see you have a Bri-mar there. Nice trailers, My machine is right around the size of the l35. What size trailer is that?

I understand you, you must chain & binder the backhoe mast, dipper & bucket down to the deck seperately from the tractor, even if you have a lock for it, it must be down on the deck & bindered in place.

Binding the hoe down only applies for any equipment over 10,000lb that is federal also anything over 10,000 must also have the fromt bucket tied down same thing with a excavator over 10,000 must also have a seperate chain on the bucket-arm

i put the hoe on the trailer deck and strap it down. mine has a lock for it but i don't like putting the stress on the boom that it would get driving down the road on the lock.

My hoe sticks out past the loading ramps and I go through the scale in 84 in Union all the time..

The backhoe on the deck subject was just discussed not to long ago. Maybe I am wrong but as I read this Securement interpretation ,regardless of machine weight, your hoe or loader can be off the deck but it be capable of being secured against any kind of movement.

I suppose one may want the loader bucket in the air for clearence it they had say a roller or something in front. Otherwise, I would always want the bucket down for stability.
