Brand new here guys but, wanted to thank everyone for the info I've gotten from the threads. Great resource.

Todays question. I just got my Mahindra 4110 setup on my Pequa 10k trailer. Ran it over to a friends scale and, as I feared, with the trailer/tractor combo alone on the scale....10680#. That's no weight on the truck and obviously no truck on the scale. I was going to roll this rig from SE.PA. to north central Fl. in 2 weeks but, am now concerned about that run down I-95. I'm looking for some opinions from you experienced guys.

Once the trailer is connected to the truck and hitch weight is on the pintle do I consider that removed from axle weight? ie. 1500 lbs. on the hitch equals 9180 on the axles?

Would anyone make this run that close to max on the trailer?

I have work for the hoe but, could take it off and leave it behind thereby removing 1400 lbs. from the tractor but, I really don't want to.

Any thoughts on safety or configuration would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Once you are hooked to the truck some of the weight is transferred to the truck. You are still very close to maxxing out your trailer. I think the only problem you may have is if you have to stop at a DOT weigh station. They will want to see the bucket and the hoe strapped or chained down. Keep a close eye on tire pressures and bring a couple trailer spares just in case.

Thanks guys.

The truck will be loaded with household stuff so, probably no room for the bucket. I'm looking at removing the FEL bucket and strapping it between the loader arms and the front wheels. This lets me roll forward a bit cuz right now its very rear heavy. Almost nothing on the truck.

I intended to strap both down on the long trip although the dealer kept saying FEL and BH are not considered implements since they are bolted to the tractor. Still.

Thanks for the feedback.

George2615 - I did a lot of this setup around your posts on the site. Thanks. Good common sense stuff.

Can you put the BH bucket with the FEL bucket on the front of the trailer? This would help with weight distrubution.

Welcome Aboard !!!!

You might want to load it backwards to get more of the backhoes weight forward, a truckstop scale can give you axle weights for each group( steer, drives and trailer) as long as you keep each axle grouping on the separate scale pads.are those 5200 lb axles on your trailer ?and are the tires rated for the weight your carrying on them ?

Can you re-weigh the trailer ?
You need to know the tongue weight.
Like Bladehauler said if you can go to a truck stop and put the trailer wheels on one scale and the tongue on another and know what your tongue weight is. I'd cut a 4x4 or 6x6 to the right height to prop the actual tongue on the scale and not the jack.
Moving the tractor forward will help tremendously.
If you can get the rear tire of the tractor centered between the trailer tires you should be good to go.
Even if you had a 12k or 14k trailer if you have a light tongue weight it will tow like a wagging dog tail.

Nice tow rig.
I'm surprised you don't have a larger trailer, weight wise.
What is the trailer length?
You will definitely need to chain the front loader bucket and rest the back hoe bucket on the deck and chain it down also.

When I tow my L4240 on a 18' rental trailer I need another 2' of trailer to get the tongue weight right.

good luck and be safe.

assuming you are non commercial and not for hire.. and don't have any business logo's on the side of your truck.. I really doubt DOT pays you much mind unless you are doing something to get noticed.

I've run around a 4-5 state area with my 450 drw and gn trailer hauling tractos back home after I find them.

i've never weighed.. never went into a station.. have went past stations and had dot pull out.. pass me and grab people in commercial-ish looking truck.

good luck.. be safe.

get some weight on the tounge...

All good stuff. Thanks to all.

Trailer is 20'. Tires are new and are good for 2830 lbs. the steel wheels are rated for 2500 lbs. axles are 5200 lb'ers. Putting the BH down on the deck made all the difference. Tons more stable.

Went over to the scale today after pulling the FEL bucket off and strapping it behind the arms and in front of the front tires. 10,680 lbs. total weight. Pulling the tractor forward all the way to the headboard gave me 9320 lbs. on the trailer axles (2-5200#). 1360 lbs. on the hitch. Shooting for 10% on the hitch I rolled the tractor back a little giving me 9560 lbs. on the axles and 1120 lbs. on the hitch.

Now my problem is the rear axle is carrying 5100 lbs. to the front axles 4460 lbs. Since the trailer is still visually sloping to the rear I thought I would drop the hitch one bolt set, roughly 2", and see if that moves enough weight forward off the rear axle.

Does that reasoning sound remotely accurate? Not moving the tractor around but, lowering the hitch should leave my hitch and total axle weight basically the same but should disperse the weight forward on the axles.

Hey, thanks a lot again guys. I appreciate all the info. Not a lot of people do this kind of stuff and its great to have some experience to bounce this off of.

Your on the right track, try to have a level trailer deck and the trailer suspension will work as designed.with your dually , I might have even tried to put a little more weight on the hitch ! just make sure your trailer brakes are adjusted right and have a safe trip !!
